The LIME Social and Sports Club put on its first ever Christmas Musical on Wednesday evening, featuring famed local groups and individuals in Christmas song.
The event, organized and produced by the LIME Social and Sports Club, was held at the LIME Recreational Grounds in River Estate, Canefield.
The night’s activity was launched with a lights ceremony followed by an electric soca rendition from Chester “Daddy Chess” Letang, which included a harmonica presentation from the former Calypso King himself. His harmonica performance showcased the versatility of the artist and set the stage for the evening’s performances.
Other performing groups and individuals included the Dominica Folk Singers, St Alphonsus Folk Choir, Cathedral Senior Choir, St Alphonsus Youth Choir, Breezy Steel Orchestra, Canefield Joint Choirs, the Loubiere Musical Quartet, Club General President James Dominique and Club member Lisa Latouche.
Congregational performances, led by the Dominica Folk Singers, were another highlight for the evening.
General President of the Club, James Dominique, in his remarks to the audience, said that the Club’s intention was to continue to promote the company’s commitment to community and to give back to the people that the company serves.
“It also fits into the Club’s purpose to initiate activities to cater for the whole family,” he said.
One of the evening’s activities was a rousing performance from the Pointe Michel Cultural Group featuring some ‘ole time Christmas sewenal’ that incited a feeling of old time Christmas caroling. Residents of Canefield would have been stirred up by shouts of “leve gens Canefield, leve!” The Loubiere Quartet’s sweet rhythmic sounds made way for the final act – a performance by Derrick “the Hunter” St Rose, another Calypso stalwart and former calypso king.
The Club’s intention is to make this an annual event to celebrate another LIME tradition that showcases the talent and skills of Dominican people.
