Veronique Nicholas, also known as Ma Boyd, has captured the Madame Wob Dwiyet title at the Arawak House of Culture on Friday night.
Nicholas, from Newtown, took home awards in the Talent and best Wob Dwiyet categories.
First runner up is Masylin Massicot from Paix Bouche, while second runner up is Huguette Andrew.
Five ladies participated in the show aimed at promoting Dominica’s national wear and emphasizing the grace and poise of the nation’s senior women.

Masline, you pulled out the stops and really made us proud on Friday night. While the competition was between you and Ma Boyd, however the talent round should have been yours. At 75 years and 11 children what more could you have asked for. YouR dancing, your gamme, everything was just fantastic.
For those who bought tickets and could only listen from outside, you missed having a ball of a time.
Congrats to Ma Boyd however. Culture cant die in DA. Thats too rich no wonder we cannot boycott!!!!!
To the organizers thanks for putting up a fantastic production, however the show has definitely gotten to big for Arawak, so now its time to head to Old Mill or even the Stadium!!! Hello people paid and couldnt get in, thats bad publicity.
Overall, great beginning to the Indedependence.. CONGRATULATIONS TO MASLINE FOR MAKING PAIX-BOUCHE PROUD !!!!!!!!!!

We feel so very proud of you for this great victory. You did extreme very well..whole night I blushing…you gave it to dem…love you love you love you!
Congratulations to the winner of Madame Wob Dwiyet 2013.
To the runners up, congratulations also to you.
There is no doubt that all five of you have done your utmost in vying for Madame Wob Dwiyet 2013. As in all competitions, there can be only one winner and one first prize. I bet the judges had a difficult time in choosing the first, the winner.
It is not easy competing with others and as all eyes in the audience are on you, knowing that you are being judged accordngly.
I visualize what a wonderful time each one had participating in this Dominica event and the relief it was all over. However, you probably stated, what an experience which was well-worth it especially showing off your national attire, culture and talent in style.
My estimation of each one of you is, you have participated in a unique Dominican culture and, as nationals of which you are proud of. As the saying, may the best one win, as the judges saw fit.
This does not mean that the others did not deserve it. You were obviously well- dressed beautifully in your cultural attire, looked beautiful, graced the stage beautifully and competed with class and dignity.
Congratulations again. Enjoy yourself at the Independence Day Celebration.
As an afterthought, an obligation, be it indirectly, is imposed on those who are the winners, who came first, including other participants.
Madame Wob Dwiyet and other participants you should do your utmost to promote and encourage everyone possible to attend the important Dominica Independence Day Celebration. First it is patriotism of all Dominicans in this case with no exception and no excuses.
God bless! Peace and Unity to all Dominicans.
