Some five years after she released her last album, Dominican princess of song, Michele Henderson, is back in the spotlight.
Henderson has released her 6th album ‘Home Chez Moi’ and has signed up to a major distributor called ‘Believe’ which will be responsible for promoting her music on the international scene, to include iTunes.
“So we are doing a few different things with this particular product, and hopefully we can get out there and people can really get to know the music,” said Henderson’s husband and producer, Roland Delsol, during the official launch of the album at the Old Mill Cultural centre on Tuesday.
According to him they have been working on the album for about three to four years and “It has taken quite a bit of time to get to this point,” he pointed out.
“Producing records is a labor of love; it has to be inspired for you to start writing …it took me about two years to get her to start writing,” he said.
He also stated that the album was produced in their own studio but the songs were sent to Martinique via the internet to be mixed and mastered.
Delsol said normally at a launch, a musician would release all 12 songs but they have decided to allow a three-month span between the songs.
Four songs were released on Tuesday, three will be released three months from now and later, three more songs will be released, until all 12 songs are released right into the peak of the next creole season.
“Hopefully everybody will listen to the music, get into it and keep it fresh over a year period,” Delsol said.
He noted that online distribution is being done right now and a hard copy of the album will be released for the creole season.
“So any one coming back home would have heard the song and want to get a copy and the people who have been with it all through the year will be really wanting to have their own copy of it,” Delsol noted.
Business Support Officer at the Creative Industries OECS Export Development Unit, Sobers Esprit, who also addressed the launch, said it was with a sense of joy and pride that the album was released.
He also described the product as an exciting one for the music market.
“I think it is a sense of joy and pride that we are here this evening to celebrate with our sister and her team on the launch of this of what I believe will be an exciting product for this music market,” he said. “Michele has been a major part of this music landscape of Dominica and the Caribbean for several years and she brings to us another gem so that we can sample her great creative genius.”
