Three-time Port Calypso King Peter ‘De Mighty Pigtail’ Letang has called on younger calypsonians in Dominica to begin writing their own songs.
He made that call during an interview with Dominica News Online (DNO) on Monday.
With his song ‘Witty’, Letang was crowned at the Dominica Air and Seaport Authority (DASPA) competition held on Saturday.
“Younger calypsonians need to start writing their own songs,” he said. “It might not be a great song the first time around, but just keep doing it; you can get help from other people…”
He continued, “When you sing what is yours I want to believe that there is a lot more feeling going into it.”
According to him, introducing music in all schools on the island will also help in that regard.
Upon winning the crown the third time, an elated Letang said, “It felt great, the first time was nice, they say when it’s nice, do it twice, so I did it twice and a third time.”
Abel ‘Checko’ Jno Baptiste secured the first place while ‘Peyo’ grabbed the second spot.
Other participants include; The Intruder, Superizer, Mighty Souff, Mighty Assmiss, Energizer, Lulu, Mighty Ro-Ro and Mighty jack
Meantime; Letang sends a message for Carnival lovers, “Let’s have a violent free Carnival season.”
