Nine-year-old Kaliida “Mighty Scholar” Joseph was crowned the Calypso Monarch of the Calibishie Primary School after outshining four other contenders last evening.
She impressed the judges with a song entitled “We Aint Satisfied Yet”- a song which speaks of society not being satisfied with the things God have provided for them and always wanting more. It was written by her class teacher Teddina Joseph.
Shania “Lady S” Lawrence came in the first runner-up position while Derwin “De Negotiator” George placed third.
Junior De Revelator” Joseph and Tashelle “Lady T” Lawrence were the other contenders.
A very jovial and elated “Mighty Scholar” admitted to Dominica News Online that she went into the competition with confidence stating, “I knew I had it in me.”
She offered advice to other young persons who wish to venture into competing in calypso to always put their best for forward.
Mother of Mighty Scholar Annelta Joseph expressed pride and said that she was even more excited about the victory than her daughter.
The Sand Band provided musical accompaniment. Sponsors include the Royal Bank of Canada and A & A’s Low Price Center.
The event was initially carded for last week but had to be postponed due to a funeral. The show was organized by the teachers of the Calibishie Primary School.
