As the dust of the Independence celebrations settles, Dominicans are getting a first glimpse of the upcoming Carnival celebrations with the contestants for the Miss Dominica Carnival Queen Pageant 2014, officially receiving their sashes.
Jewele Bianca Brown of Pointe Michel, Shalina Samuel of Stockfarm, Octavia Prosper of Laplaine/Delice, Royette Laurent of Portsmouth, Donnella Riviere of Roseau, Francine Tiffany Baron of Grandbay, and Tourence Bernita Dorsette of Marigot signed contracts confirming their participation in the 2014 Queen show.
Speaking at the ceremony on Thursday morning, Director of Discover Dominica Authority, Collin Piper, told the contestants that they are now tasked with maintaining high standards for the show.
“You have to put into it. You have to give of your time and you have to cultivate those talents that you know you have but may have been laying dormant. We have great success with Miss Dominica over the last 7 years, so the bar is set high for you but we know that you will do well,” he said.
Chairperson of the Queen Show Committee, Romualda Hyacinth, added that the committee aims to continue to raise the standard of the show. She said that the journey to selecting the seven contestants started on October 16th, 2013 when 13 young ladies registered and were interviewed.
“We send out a plea to patrons and sponsors to get on board and play your part in Mas Dominique with your generous sponsorship for the queen contestants for 2014,” she said.
There will be village launches for each of the contestants soon.
The show is carded to take place on February 28th, 2014.
