Baptiste, who is winning her first regional crown since being crowned Miss Carnival Queen (Miss Dominica) title earlier this year, follows in the footsteps of compatriot Marah Walter who won in 2008 – one of three regional titles Walter captured during her reign as Miss Dominica in 2008.

Ricco slow down sweety, we didn’t beat the reigning Miss USA 2009 (Kristen Dalton) from North Carolina as she wasn’t present at the show.

Megan Small was only representing a pageant that is held in some of the Caribbean communities in I think South Florida, not the whole country. Google her name and you will see what she actually won.

The bit about next stop Miss Universe I totally agree and I say go that extra mile and add Miss
World and Miss Earth as they are good avenues to promote our ‘Nature Isle’ and gain exposure as well.

Pardon my ignorance, but can someone tell me why would a representative from a country that is not in the Caribbean get invited to participate in the ‘Miss Caribbean World Pageant?’

Or perhaps I am missing something here………Please somethin enlighten me?

She is Jamaican! and representing the caribbean people in the diaspora. i am yet to find a problem with that! ideas ideas! i even thought you mentioned googling her name, so wonder how you didnt see that! Dominican girls are among the best in the region when it comes to pageants. Our record is probably the best in the Eastern Caribbean. Since the 1990s, our queens have generally done very well. Can someone tell us the number of regional crowns our girls have brought home since the 1990s?

Congrats, Marcia. There was something about you that impressed me when the 2010 Carnival queen contestants appeared on Marpin television for an interview.

Keep it up. I wish you the best in everything you do.

    March 29, 2010

Marcia is Royalty yes she is, and i was too proud as a dominican on the night of the show she was beautiful in every form and was very consistent, a true beauty indeed. Dominica has a chance to fully sponsor this beautiful young lady and i do hope they go out of their way to accomodate her in the other pageants to come. Word of advice, her dress is beautiful but on the international level she is going to need something more sophisticated, a little more colour that will bring out her radiant skin tone, hew swimsuit is beautiful i’d keep that, her spectacular wear awesome, her talent needs to be altered or changed, a talent like hers is a masterpiece but to be presented in dominica the few little drama inbetween on skerrit might not sit well with the judges as most of them might not know what message she is trying to bring across. With these few changes there is no doubt in my mind that this gem will be ready to create history in the making. Good luck marcia and may royalty continue to show itself.

      Totally agree with you 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000%

Marcia needs those sponsors in DA to step up to the plate and help get her represent our island like so many of the other islands, (some of them smaller than we are) each year in the Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss Earth Pageants.

Think of the immense amount of publicity, world wide tourism marketing and of course more importantly an opprtune time for the delegate to give clarity and differenciation between the “Nature Isle” Dominica and the Dominican Republic, who so many people still confuse with Dominica.

Clearly lots more education work to be done particularly on the international side.

I will be willing to contribute whatever little I can to get her to where the next Miss Universe will be held, or Vietnam who will be hosting both the Miss World & Miss Earth 2010 pageants.

JUDGE NOT AND HE SHALL NOT BE JUDGED!

IF THAT IS THE SORT OF TONE THAT YOU DISPLAY THEN, YET YOU STILL CONSIDER THAT YOU ARE HOLLIER THAN THOUGH, THEN NEED I SAY MORE.

WHAT OR WHO HAS GIVEN YOU THE RIGHT TO STAND ON YOUR HIGH HORSE AND REFER TO MARCIA AS YOU SAY “HARLOT”?

I really do pitty you and it is once again “BLOCKED” head Dominicans like you that portray the island in a negative, backward and primitive light!

Here’s a young lady who is trying her utmost best to do to the right thing and portray herself in a very postitive light and step up to be an ambassador and delegate for promoting her island, yet, you sit back in judgement as if you are some god ordained ‘Ark Angel’, throwing your ignorant insults towards her, because she doesn’t attend some organised relegion of your choice or approval.

My advise to you ‘stuck in a rot’, is to crawl right back under the rocks you were under and stay there and we have no use for the likes of you in society!

Perhaps if you were doing something constructive to improve your island instead of sitting back and spitting your venom towards other people you would feel better about yourself.

Here’s some food for thought if your very ‘pea’ brain can actually process it. WHEN YOU STRENGTHEN YOUR SELF-ESTEEM, THERE IS NO ROOM FOR JEALOUSY.

CONGRATS MARCIA, from the time i saw u i knew u were the BEST in the 7 contestants for the local Queen Show in february, I did not even know you, and i didnt go to the Queen show either. Keep doin Great, Jah Bless,

And on another note, i just want to say I hope you are getting enough sponsorship from Dominica, the way some of them other passt queens was getting more than they needed. because I dont believe in using the same dress in every pageant, I like your dress but They BETTER give u d cash to buy a closet full.

Says alot about DOminicans. we dont support our people and then they go out there and do the IMPOSSIBLE an shock us. Thats why it so Dam hard to Progreess here, but I have had my own experiences, Who JAH BLESS, NO MAN CURSE.

I am glad I am not the only one confused about this, as I was just over the weekend discussing this issue with a few friends and we just kept laughing and wondered what was going on there.

As I have said before, she isn’t the reigning Miss USA as she is Kriten Dalton from North Carolina, but when I googled her it would seem see won some pageant that the South Florida West Indian community put on, no the whole USA.

Go girl, and give God his glory.

  44. Looking ahead
    March 28, 2010

Does anyone know how many contestants there were. There may have been only six or seven contestants.

Were the other contestants top winners in similar shows from their country. This is because some countries send their second and third runner ups to test the top girls of the other countries for future pageants.

Were countries like Jamaica and Puerto Rico represented? We know very often they set the standards. Although recently we have been there at the top with them.

We need to know these in order to determine our true standard for future pageants

    • Yes We Can
      March 29, 2010

Go look at the previous news article posted by DNO with the pics of the contestants. From what I can recall about 16 contestants were already present on the island a week before for the show. 20 were expected to take part. And yes, Jamaica and Puerto Rico did take part. Why do we doubt our own people? Marcia won for a reason..she was the best…she is talented and beautiful..

    • DOMINICA'S HOME GROWN
      March 29, 2010

There were about 16-20 contestants in the show.

Never set yourself lower than those islands you have mentioned as excellence has abosolutely nothing to do with what was the case in yester year but what is actually happening today.

I don’t know where you got your information from about countries sending their 1st and 2nd runners ups to such competitions instead of the winners, as that makes no sense at all and I can’t see many countries choosing their least seasons delegates to such pageants.

All of those issues are irrelavant as in the pageant’s 5th year of operation, if you do you research you will see that the ‘Nature Isle’ Dominica has always been featured in one way or another in some capacity.

GET OUT FROM THE MINDSET THAT SO MANY DOMINICANS HAVE ADOPTED THAT EVERYONE ELSE IS BETTER THAN THEM AND WHAT THEY HAVE.

Wow! what a great Feat for a Dominican young lady I am truly impressed with Marcia’s showing at these Pageants very remarkable. I must say that I am one of those Individuals who believes in empowering our youth and I must say here and now that Miss Marcia be given a piece of Land and be made an Ambassador at Large working in the foreign departments with our overseas missions and report to the Government directly. Mr. Skerrit she is not too young for an Independence Day award and I emplore you and your Government to give recognition where it is due sooner rather than later u know the saying ” give someone their flowers whilst they are alive” This lady obviously posses some very good qualities that needs to be enhanced and taken to a higher level. Once again God bless the wonderful people of Dominica and I pray we will continue to save the youths of our Country which are future leaders of tomorrow. Cheers.

Once again this young professional lady that I saw while I attended the pageant at this year’s carnival, has remained as deligent, intelligent as she always is, with great poise, elegance and most of all being able to carry that natural ‘Nature Isle’ beauty and showcase with upscale style for the world to see.

Naysayers and negative auras ‘eat your malicious hearts out’, as Marcia’s determined and tenacious enough to ignore you lot and get on with the task at hand, as she has been selected to be a delegate for her island.

The very first time I saw that young lady at the pageant, I just knew she had that certain specdial finesse that Diane Francis, Leandra Lander, Marah Walters and Marcella Larouque had before her.

That feeling one gets when they just know this person was awarded the title only on merit/consistency and nothing else which is how it should always be.

Wasn’t it a terrific sight to see our ‘Nature Isle’ beauties up on stage in the form of the outgoing title holder Marah Walters who has been an outstanding delegate for her island, and the incoming Marcia Baptiste who will be carrying the torch with I am sure some brilliant words of advise given to her by Marah. Fantastic!!!!!!!

Well Done Marcia and I’ll keep praying for you for god’s guidance along your journey.

Kudos to her chaperone, coach, talent producer, costume desginers, evening wear desginer and everyone who in one way or another has assisted this young lady on her journey, to be an ambassador for her island and to promote it in the process.

Keep up the superb work you all are trying to do and I know everyone in your team will be just over the moon with delight for you, and thanks for making Dominicans proud all over the world and also at home in Dominica.

By the way people, does anyone know whether any of these business places in Dominica have stepped forward to award this young ambassador a suitable job that can compliment her skills and talents as she so deserves it?!

The powers that be should honour this and look after their delegates, as that is the least they can do for those who are promoting Dominica the best they can.

WELL DONE MARCIA AND TEAM AND HERE’S TO EVEN SUCCESSES!

Keep it up girl!!! You and others such as Marah Walter are shinning examples that good things do come from Dominica. March 28, 2010

      to Shatta,

Why don’t u shut up if you can’t find something positive to say. Is your lips any better? The things you people would choose to come up with sometimes. This girl exemplified both outer and inner beauty ( I was at the show) and the latter is the most important quality in an individual. Again congratulations Marcia, you represented well.

      March 29, 2010

What a FOOLISH comment to make SHATTA.

It is because of her lips and all her other Beautiful BLACK features why she deserved to win.

I don’t know about you, but i am proud of my Black features…..including my lips.

      Congratulations Marcia !!!

      March 29, 2010

And what exactly is wriong with her having her natural god given ‘full and luscious lips?”

At least she is not doing like the Europeans or the others who go through such lengths as paying exhorbitant amounts of money to have colagen injected in their lips in the hope of gaining ‘full lips’.

In case you forgot Miss Dominica is not Miss Coratia so need I say more and I know which lips I would prefer, especially when I don’t have to buy.

Sad to see that the ‘slave mentality’ and the ‘house slave’ still exist among our my people in the year 2010. Such a long way to go……………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Shatta what were your initial reservations and may I ask whether you were at the same show that I was at?

If you were then your analysis would not even come into play.

She was obvioulsy the most talented and consistent which is an ingredient that always go a long way in such pageants.

Extending Serious congratulations to the Queen for a job well done. To the Possie massive, thank you for all that you have done. Elma, I never doubted your abilities to make and break. You are the best chaperone any one could ask for. Thank you Prince and Fenella and Nurse Membo and Lennox and teh Alcid Family. Without the Ports-of Mouth Team, this dream would have never been a reality today. Special thanks to all those who supported big time, who prayed hard and those who gave full encouragements. You have and continues to play a fundamental role in the upbringing of young people in your country. THANK YOU ALL

    March 27, 2010

Off course she is very beautiful and talented……………Congratualtions and best wishes. P.S Tell Skerrit woever wins the carnival queen contest shouldn’t be forced to go school where the government want to them to go and they shouldn’t have to do academics in the area the government want them to. If these girls don’t participate in Carnival queen show you all will have a serious problem because the queen show is one of the few highlights of Mas Dominik. All you have all kinds of money to do whatever and no money to pay them girls.

          March 28, 2010

labour fooled— yeah the government coming in it cause y’all like to take people indvidual successes and group it into Dominica successes. The “Dominica” on her sash is just her brand where she is from not a license for all you to take it as the country’s success. Go make all you own success or let those girls chose what they wnt to do!

Poor silly, ignorant fool! You obviouly have a whole host of issues if you cannot see that every achievement, however small it may seem in yours or any body else eyes, is to be celebrated by every citizen and not to be looked at as an individual acolade as you were rediculous enough to imply, bearing in mind most of us know that ‘no man is an island.’

            GROW UP FOOL!!!!!

        March 28, 2010

Hooked on phonics works for you to Pathetic. If you could comprehend I was implying nothing negative towards the queen and actually supporting any female in DA who wants to go up for queen. But I guess you were probably hinting at the Skerrit maypwee I gave above which is clear enough that my 8 year cousin understand. So read it again!

      March 28, 2010

……I………., what is your problem? Is Skerrit money burning you? We are moving to the next level. So chill out. Congrats to our Queen. We Love you Marcia. Making Possie and the north proud again.
