Miss Dominica, Jacintha Fagan, walked away with the first runner up position at the Jaycees Caribbean Queen Pageant held in Antigua last night.
She grabbed that position from among a field of 15 contestants from across the Caribbean.
Miss St. Kitts-Nevis, Iantavian Queeley, walked away with the crown, while Miss Anguilla and Miss St. Lucia took the second and third runner up positions respectively.
It is a huge win for Fagan who faced a barrage of criticism following her failure to walk away with a winning position at the recently held Miss Caribbean Culture Queen competition in St. Kitts-Nevis. It shows she has the potential to defy the odds and come out on top.

Dominicans have been since the time of our emancipation from the slave trade never really been given our just dues.
There is a long list of Dominican names throughout the last 150 years or so, have done great things for the benefit of the world.
It is about time overdue that we got/get our rightful place in all the Caribbean events to come.

Lucia, St.Kitts, Antigua&Barbuda, Barbados, Trinidad and MORE sends their representations to MISS UNIVERSE… why can’t DOMINICA?? We had High Expectations, the whole caribbean had their eyes on NAKITA, LEANDRA and Marah and then MARCIA came and did the same!!! Miss Dominica performed average. As a Dominican I am happy she captures a place however I looked at the pageant from start to finish and keept wondering if she had met the other contestants she did in the two previous pageants, where would she be. I think this year the Jaycees contestants were below average. This was the worst group of competitors I have seen at a Jaycees pageant’real nonensense’. Miss Domnica was consistent and this is where I think she was able to capture this high place. Miss Anguilla was also very good but she went dosn in the cocktail dress round. The only three competitors were really the top three. I think that we really need to train our queens before sending them out there, this is not a matter of luck and chance it should be a matter of winning material and I did not see that at the pageant. Sorry! Miss St Kitts though was in a category of her own, in my opinion she is one of the best performers I have seen in a long time at jaycees. she was exceptional. As someone who has been following Miss Dominica for her regional pageants, Antigua was her best performance, though her singing was very flat, she was among the best of the worst and believe me the talents were horrible. I am just saddened it took so long for miss Fagan to come around.
For the next Miss Dominica, I think the Queen show committee should take back charge of the contestants like they used to long ago with a chief chaperone and work with the contestants. This helped tremendously.

You have donw well in BOTH your most recent contests. you placed higher up than the same Miss St. Lucia who beat you in Nevis though those of us who were at that show knew the crown was between you and Miss St. Lucia. If I am not mistaken Miss St. Lucia knew that too. I am mighty proud of you. hold your head up high girl … blessings keep making us proud of you. God’s given virtue, I totally agree with you. Don’t look for much positive support on this post. Most people are still full of a lot of false pride and forget that beauty is in the eye the Creator and the beholder. God’s word stated that each one of us is “wonderfully and skillfully made”. Beauty contests and the like tend to undermine that selfless notion. People promoting and supporting those side-shows are fixated on the external and superficial instead of the beauty that lies within. What twisted messages are we sending to our young women, many of whom do not have the desired attributes of the beauty contestants? Society continues to clamor for equal rights and treatment for women. However, women continue to be trivialized in the entertainment industry, music videos, advertisements and other side-shows like beauty contests and cheer leading exhibitions.

DNO i have to wonder why you placing this unnecessary criticism on the shoulders of Miss Dominica. First it was the Queen Caribbean Culture pageant and now this. Its not everyday we are going to win every crown. STOP BEING SO NEGATIVE with your commentary. Miss Dominica deserves our SUPPORT NOT CRITICISM
In all fairness to DNO, I don’t think their commentary in this particular article places any criticism on the shoulders of Miss Dominica, but instead on her critics. If you had been following the evil and inappropriate comments from the public in the past couple weeks and beyond you would understand why the article would have been written that way and why this win is considered a big one for her and for all her fans, especially me. The public needs to understand the point you just made that you can’t win all the time. To me, when it comes to queen shows and things of that nature, if persons have nothing positive to say and can’t wish the girls well, then remain silent. Maybe if you read the story again, you may change your mind about who the criticism is aimed at. For me, this show is the most prestigious one and she has made us proud.
Congratulation to you Jacintha Fagan, Miss Dominica and your TEAM, as you certainly wasn’t able to do it alone. I always thought you had it in you even to beat Miss St. Kitts and Nevis. Miss St. Kitts and Nevis was a well prepared delegate very much like Venezula at the Miss Universe and anything could have gone wrong with her on that night. However you really “Bring it on”.
I see you took up my advice via my comments on DNO and you facebook page. I know you did not acknowledge my e mail/comment, but singing that Tasha P song and your natural singing ability, as oppose to the pan you did on St. Vincent worked for you. You made a complete 360 turn for the Miss Jaycees Caribbean Queen Show, changing your gown, and your interview was on par with Miss St. Kitts and Nevis. You made aplace when it matter with the competitions your placed, Miss Caribbean World and Jaycees. Funny, Miss Angullia whom you competed with in the order competition was tired.
The search should be on for the next Miss Dominica 2012 contestants/delegate. These young ladies should be doing their research [ youtube etc] on their possible competitor for 2012, including the new Miss St. Kitts/Nevis who will be crown in December.
These young women should be preparing themselves to face interviews by READING current affair and developing debating/communication skills. These young women should havehad a natural talent already only to to be fine tuning it for the show, not somethig learn. These ladies should be thinking the gym as she tone up her body.
Question people, Why is it that in the local Miss Dominica show the contestant never show off their natural talent? An example of this was Marcia and Jacintha to some extent.
