Nadira Lando sets eyes on Miss Carival 2012

Miss Dominica Nadira Lando being crowned Miss Caribbean World in Tortola early Sunday morning

Newly crowned Miss Caribbean World, Nadira Lando, is setting her eyes on another regional pageant, Miss Carival 2012.

The show, which has been running for 27 years now in St. Vincent, is expected to take place on Friday July 6th, 2012 at Carnival City, Victoria Park.

“Right now when I return to Dominica I will be competing in Miss Carival….” Lando said in an interview minutes after she won the Miss Caribbean World crown in Tortola early Sunday morning.

The Miss Carival crown was won last year by Iantavian Queeley of St. Kitts and according to organizers countries showing interest so far in this year’s pageant are Anguilla, Barbados, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela.

The organizers say other countries invited include, Grenada, Guyana, St Lucia and the United States Virgin Islands (USVI). They say at least ten contestants, including St. Vincent and the Grenadines, are expected to take part in the event.

The organizers say some of the objectives of the show include fostering greater linkages and bonds between the many islands, encouraging contestants, chaperones and patrons to go to St. Vincent and the Grenadines to showcase the beauty and diversity of Caribbean young women.

If we don’t even have the money to fix pot holes, and the PM house have termite, is Mr. Universe we can afford. However, I do agree that she is a perfect candidate.

she has made us proud as dominicans, yet on her arrival sunday 7th may at the airort only the taxi drivers and the chaparons parents were there to welcome her. what a shame. she has just represented dominica and won! is it because she is not a city girl? shame on us

She is a “city girl”. She may be from the Kalinago Territory, but she lives in the Southwest. And, by the way, have you heard her accent? Not one you would typically hear from a “country girl”.

CONGRATS TRUE DOMINICAN, you continue to show your worth & pride as A DOMINICAN but yet before going to the show in the BVI , you did not get any support from this agency in DA like Dominica Festival Committee , COC the govt etc. Her parents wanted to be there with their daughter but no support . The charperon had to pay her passage from her pocket but yet she is representing our island DOMINICA . Never knew that when this queen representing Dominica they have to pay from THEIR POCKET , WHAT A SHAME ON THIS PEOPLE IN DOMINICA . But yet they continue to show pride hats of to you all who represent DOMINICA without getting any FUNDS or SUPPORT from these agencies .

tell that 2 skerrit i find its about time skerrit lend a helping hand to his people in Dominica that representing our island…every time someone has to go overseas and represent Dominica being it sports or pageants most time the money has 2 come from our pockets or we have to scrunt to raise funds on our own…its not about just building roads and building schools but also about supporting our people in sport and different hobbies of their interest…build a football field and a basketball field, show a lil more interest in sports dance and singing… a facilities for these hobbies for youths who are not so educated but has a lot of skills in the different sports and hobbies like dancing….its not all of us that want to be a doctor or a lawyer some of us wants to be a professional basketball player or a professional dancer or singer build a dance studio hire professionals,it about time that skerrit make these dreams come alive right here in dominica than we have to travel abroad just to get the proper learning skills or upgrade our level of performances….

Not a fair statement to make. Considering the Prime Minister turned this “beauty pageant” into a scholarship programme, whereby, Ms. Lando will be afforded the opportunity to develop herself. “Skerrit” isn’t the one responsible for a lot of what you mentioned here. The various sports organizations and village councils need to be resourceful and take the initiative. Go do your homework!
