National Rabbit Festival is on

After a brief hiatus, organizers of the annual Rabbit Festival in Cochrane have said that the event is on this year and are promising it is going to be bigger and better.

The event has been off due to poor road conditions and an inadequate planning period but President of the Cochrane Village Council Committee, Ronaldson Piper, told Dominica News Online that the festival will be staged this year because of greater traffic convenience and more activities.

The festival will be staged on Sunday, August 3.

“The Rabbit Festival is on fully and we are looking forward for it to be bigger this year,” Piper stated.

He explained that there will be one way in and one way out of the village in order to prevent traffic congestion, a major headache in the past.

“We will be coming in through the River Estate area and going out through the Springfield area,” he noted. “So instead of having a traffic jam, for the past few years we have been having problems with, this year it is going to be different. It will be easy access.”

Piper noted that close to 10 cooks are showing interest in the event.

“In fact, this is the first time we are having all these cooks,” he said.

Activities for the event include rabbit races, lime and spoon, sheep boxing, among others.

On the menu will be rabbit prepared in a number of ways including barbecued, stewed, sweet and sour and smoked.

The opening ceremony, which used to be staged in the morning, will now be held the afternoon to facilitate church goers and a larger crowd.

Piper is urging Dominicans to turn out in large numbers with their children and make the event a family affair.

The festival is being staged in conjunction with the Cochrane Village Improvement Committee and will be held on the Cochrane playing field.

Headline sponsors include Digicel, Courts Dominica Ltd and the Parliamentary Representative, Dr. Colin Mc Intyre.

Other sponsors are Carib Beer, Kubuli Beer, 4-D Ag Center, Pirates Ltd, Petro Caribe and Gator Sounds

The festival is also receiving support from the Veterinary section of the Division of Agriculture.

So the parliamentary representative who was missing in action for the past five years is a headline sponsor of this years rabbit festival?
It would be interested to find out how much rabbit meat will come from the laborite’s who received rabbit wire and cages from their parlrep
And as for the road leading to the village , I bet you will see it being done one week before the festival, by persons who do not have the skills to do such work . That’s what the people of Cockrane deserves.

Totally against that. Eating of rabbit is gross. Just like eating a cat. I mean if that’s your thing its a matter of personal choice. However some national festival promoting it that’s another thing.

Internet, Bully, you want to mess with Texas! go right ahead. My Lawyer`s name is Danny Lugay. In my opinion some come here to make meaningful contributions, others come to bully persons they have no idea who they are. Allegedly I understood MR: Lugay is looking to win the elections. win ,loose, or draw. Lets not hide behind our computer and feel were are all powerful. That’s further from the truth.

Pleased to know that the Rabbit Festival will be taking place this year. A Festival as this should never be ignored. I visualize the disappointment of all concerned when it was not held for two years. As you organize it, you can now look forward to a wonderful day and having a great time.
DNO had posted pictures of the last Festival. Looking forward to seeing those of this year.
I would love to eat some of the menu mentioned. A taste of each one would do. Well, sometime when I will be present at the time of the Festival. Good luck in your preparations.

I wish the organizers of the Rabbit Festival good luck and much success. I notice Dr. Collin Mc Intyre is a sponsor , I wonder if it his personal cash or that of the government of Dominica . I would not trust him.
