Dominica’s two top Bouyon bands, WCK and Triple Kay Global, have denied being in conflict with each other after a top carnival official made a call for them to put aside their differences and promote a peaceful carnival season.
Chief Cultural Advisor and Chairman of the Dominica Carnival Committee Alwin Bully urged the two bands to reconcile for the good of Dominica’s carnival and culture at a press conference at the Dominica Festivals Committee office this morning.
“We all know that at the opening of parade there was a bit of a skit between the two bands,” Bully said. “In fact I think we all know that the two bands have had some difficulties in the past.”
However representatives from the bands say there are no problems between them.
“I just want to assure everyone that WCK and Triple Kay has no animosity between themselves,” Keith Goddard, band manager for WCK, said.
Lead vocalist for Triple Kay Global Wayne ‘Benji’ Benjamin agreed. “There is no animosity. It is really the fans. They really stir up things and so on,” he said.
Goddard said the two bands have actually been working together. “We just did the opening of Portsmouth Carnival and Benji was there. He can attest to that because we did it peacefully, we did it with cooperation, we usually work together,” he pointed out.
Goddard also attributed the rumors of animosity between the two band to fans. “I think the problem really is from the fans and what is being said offstage,” he said. “Maybe we may have some differences but this is not something that’s deep enough to have this whole thing blown out of proportion.”
Benji pleaded with patrons to have a violence free carnival season.“Do not come in a carnival band looking for trouble because we do not condone this,” he said.

We really need to look at the big picture. These bands play in international waters representing Dominica not WCK or KKK but Dominica. I went to a KKK jam because my friend heard from a group of 2O year olds that they run DA musically. I must say we were very disappointed because majority of the crowd was not familar with the music and it was difficult to understand the words and could not move. We all know the plate of food song from the radio and was excited when benji had the woman jump in his face but other than that the music was sooooo loud and no words. Its nice to see skinny is back maybe dice can do the same!

@ D when hip hop just started it was about UNITY & Struggle. The division east coast/west coast beef came late after gangster rap. Early days of hip-hop had rap and dance battles that were fun. Get the history right. Both Triple K & WCK have talent and the guys are smart enough to know that violence can take away their bread while a little competition never hurt anybody. Tell the dumb fans to cool it like Benji say.

WCK is just not the same. CK of the late eighties to early ninety was da bomb. As for KKK I have no idea what they are playing but this definitely does not sound like bouyon to me. Remember the release CK had for DA ‘s 10th anniversary of Independence? Man that was music. We need to get back music like those. Music with meaning.
wck today i think is better then ck of the late 80s….why, the muzik is much better and the lyrics is much more powerful then before. take a good listen to the superman LP and listen to the lyrics from the songs and the composition and compare it to any of ck previous lp and it sure will stand out.
“Fume” was one of ck hottest and most recognize track back in the day, right now listen to “we must go on” and tell me which you think has the better musical composition, lyrical content and arrangement. “met veye” was a classical hit and most of us remember it but compare the lyrics and international appeal to that of “i in dat” so while i think back in the days ck run the area i think with this new core of musical ck is destine to higher places…….
Pardna, 23 years later how u expect the music to be the same. its amazing the WCK still alive, well and kicking. remember unlike swinging stars (a great band) they are not considered “old school”, ther are a NOW band, they r young and energetic, with solid experience. I personally respect and big up CK. and as for Triple K. respect dem man. they transform and move the music to something new.

I am not from Dominica. Lyrical content is very important if these guys wnat to make it anywhere. Nayee has a “gift”. Skinny Banton is “talented”. I knowthe triple kay guys think that they will have thier fans no matter what they sing, but what they need to realise is that “most” of thier fans are immature and when they mature they will move away from them. If they can continue to keep up the riddims (which i love, and i am mature) with new lyrics then they will be ok. Delly is great, using the french which appeals to the neigbouring countries, that is great. w.c.k is ontop, triple kay jsut need to focus on thier own efforts and accept that the majority is with wck and that they they cannot be mad at the fans for this. i am here visiting dominica and swigning stars and fanatic are super great! they are professioanl about their music too. not saying that the others are not. one thing i do not see is any extra talent or display or scenery. Domincans are missing that. i I wish them all the best.

I believe each band to their own, they both carry a wide fan base. They also both sound the bloody same anyway, even the bands that have come out after them sound like them. They are simply providing Dominicans with the music they want to hear day in day out!
I remember Triple Kay when they first, first started I saw them in Dominica for the first time, then when they went international with their first ever gig in the UK back in 2004 they have come a long, long way.
Triple Kay music may not be to some of you guys liking but they have been around for a long time and enjoy what they do and obviously have plenty fans in Dominica and all over that enjoy it to. They may not have the best of voices I agree but you got to give credit where credit is due, musical they got some very good beats, along with a very good drummer, and they entertain very well.
As for trouble in their dances I am not there to witness that, but that is not down to them but rather the individual that decided to attack in the first place.
Finally if their music is not to your liking then its simple, listen to something else!
Check the Fans Go at it. The Band Leaders were indeed right. It is indeed the fans fueling the fire. Just look at the stir that a simple post is causing.

Whatever music kkk is playing is not bouyon. All of their albums put together cannot beat any of WCK albums (1988-1999) (1999-2003) and certainly not the first serenade band of the 90’s. But as time change, different talents must surface and good luck to them trying to reach that level. KKK is the band for the new generation, the lead singer needs some vocal improvement and his lyrics aswell.

I think that, in fact, the fans seem to be egging on the situation. They would actually prefer that there is beef between the two bands because some of those fans are just inclined that way. That to them is added excitement.
However, I think Mr. N20 has to take some responsibility for some of this. In fact, both bands do. What do you expect the fans to conclude when you two go at each other during the opening of carnival, throwing ‘fion’ through your songs? And let’s not talk about Benji’s rant when he found out that WCK had been placed last on the parade route.
Which brings me to the effect that some of these chant ‘songs’ have on the psyche of these young, impressionable people. The fact of the matter is that chanting, ryhthm, music affect human emotions. So the chants coming from these band, especially KKK, the chant masters, do go a long way in determining the mood of these young people while they are in the band.

Ck came to Uk and played pure s*&t. Triple kay came to Uk and made pure noise, the best band is S stars you hear everything.

Self proclaimed Promoter get a life. You perception does not define it’s reality. So percieve as you may. I expect to that you express similar sentiments about anything you don’t identify with. Maybe toward belle, jing ping, lapo cabwit and African Culture too.

I agree, After Rah left WCK wasn’t the same,(1988-1999) but with Mr. Cornell (fingers) Phillip fingering the keyboards and Nayee on the vocals they survived and made desent/good albums (2000-2003). After Cornell left that was it, as I said in my last post, new talent must emerge, But Rah and Cornell can and will never be replaced. WCK was very popular and well respected where ever they played when WCK was WCK. After the 2003 album, WCK’s music has been on a steady decline.

MR PROMOTER everyone has their opinion on which band they like. No one never said Swinging stars and Fanatik wasn’t good……You don’t like WCK and Tripple kay music then its up to you. But if to everyone WCK and Triple KAy were s**t they wouldn’t be travelling all around the world. And if they were makin only noise the organisers for UK carnival surely would call them to play in the UK for carnival………so respect WCK and Triple Kay they are our local bands and we dance to their music and they surely give us a great carnival

Just want to echo a point you made. It was really unethical and cowardly of Benji to dump all the blame on his fans. The fans make the band, and that how he rewards their support. All he had to do was pledge to be better. I hope the fans take note.
