No Kitchen Required – Dominica premieres Tuesday night

BBC America’s new cooking series premieres tonight with its first installment ‘No Kitchen Required – Dominica.’

No Kitchen Required is a reality cooking show that features three chefs who are dropped into the most exotic and remote places on earth. There they must work with the locals to hunt, fish and forage for ingredients to create locally-inspired meals that will be judged by the communities.

In the first episode the chefs are dropped in Dominica.  Equipped with only their knives and secret ingredients of choice, they are welcomed by the host of the series Dr. Shini Somara and the Kalinago community.

After a traditional performance by the Kalinagos and an exquisite feast, the chefs set out in search for the ingredients for their meals. They must first master spearfishing, track a manicou through the dense jungle, blindly hunt for crustaceans in dangerously murky water and forage for tropical fruits and root vegetables like coconuts and yams.

Then they are expected to combine these ingredients to create a delectable feast for their hosts against driving winds and rain before time runs out.

NO Kitchen Required – Dominica premieres at 10:00pm ET/PT.

BBC America can be found on Marpin channel 43 and SAT – Channel 42 straight/Channel 20 on the box.

These guys can’t cook. They all used the locals to make them look good. The thing is that they just can’t cook! Another form of exploitation by outside forces.

        April 4, 2012

hey… this has nothing to with the appreciation. for the amount of money that show made…. they should give something more than just books…. i am sure they could have given laptops…. what happen to scholarships…..when it come to our KALINAGO, it is always books. that’s the point. they could have give scholarships up to grade 6.

It’ll be a miracle if these chefs aren’t held up and robbed at some point, eh? What a place Dominica has become. Ah, yes, yes. Dislike my comment for me “not being positive,” though I only speak the uncomfortable truth.

    • hmmmmm
      April 3, 2012

even its the truth lets think positive

    • anon
      April 3, 2012

its a pre-taped show not live. u just being negative is all

    • Alas.......
      April 3, 2012

@ Sam Harris So true……and the plain truth is always uncomfortable whether we are prepared to admit it or not.

    • concerned
      April 4, 2012

You have a right to your comments and they are warranted. I do not support the crimes that are happening and it is unfortunate. But this represents a small group of people. Just like crimes happen where you are from in greater degree and people still visit. If you have experienced any such situation am sorry but know not all of Dominica is in support of these negative acts. Visitors now need to be more cautious when travelling to the caribbean in general the preconceived notion that anything applies needs to be revisited.

Your so right. I know that Dominica is beautiful and I learnt to appreciate even more after moving to the United States. There are places I never knew excisted. Great exposure, but now we have to get rid of the rogues and thieves who will prevent Dominica from being the one of the safest and most beautiful place on earth. The Government and the police need to step up and do something about it. We don’t want Dominica to get like some of the other Island. I believe these days, there no fear of God and drugs can really that to you.
