FULL STORY: Search underway for seventh contestant

BYEE: Marilyne Richards has been replaced.

One contestant has withdrawn from the national queen pageant scheduled for March 4, 2011.

Eddelia Rolle withdrew due to “personal reasons”, a decision made formally to the Dominica Festival Committee (DFC) and queen show committee less than two days ago, Chairperson of the Carnival Queen Show Committee, Ramoulda Hyacinth, announced at a contract-signing ceremony for the contestants at the DFC’s office in Roseau this morning.

Eddelia Rolle when she and other contestants were first introduced to the public at the LIME Creole in the Park event in Oct. 2010

Hyacinth said the short notice for Rolle’s withdrawal did not allow “us sufficient time to seek a replacement. At this time, we will continue to explore the possibility of having a seventh contestant for the pageant and we will advise you as soon as we have concrete word”.

Another contestant, Marliyne Richards, has been replaced by Earlene Labassiere. The DFC did not give a reason for Richards’ dropout.

Hyacinth said preparations are “well underway and going well and we can assure you a show of quality and substance to rival the show of last year”.

She added: “The contestants are ready to continue their training in order to thrill you on the night of March 4th and today they sign the contracts to make it official.”

well when we as d/can come on d.n.o and say so much bad things about the looks of these beautiful young women,,,someone’s feelings must be hurt,,,,plus lack of sponsorship,,,why? no young woman would decide to go for pageant then withdraw just like dat,,,,this is a chance which comes once in a lifetime,,,,,,,,i believe we crushed the self-esteem of some of these young ladies
