Consultant for the World Creole Music Festival (WCMF) 2016, Val Cuffy, has announced some changes when the event is hosted later this year.

At a press conference on Thursday, he stated that there will be no vending on Bath Road, there will be changes at the food court and the ticketing center will be renamed.

“There will be no vending on Bath Road,” he stated. “So we going to be setting up this area for welcoming our guests.”

Cuffy said the food court will be called “The Village” this year, “so that we can have at the food court an experience that you will even want to even remain there.”

He stated that the ticket processing center will be called the ‘Jeff Joe Ticket Processing Center’ where the Dominican musical icon will be honored with pictures and the “right feel and right look.”

“We are hoping to have our carnival queen contestants doing the welcome, as well as the calypso monarch and to really give people a warm welcome,” he noted.

At the same press conference, promoter of the event, Leroy ‘Wadix’ Charles, appealed to Dominicans to show patriotism and support the event.

He said Dominica is still recovering from the effects of Tropical Storm Erika and the WCMF is one of the events that will bring the island back to a level of sustenance.

Meanwhile, Acting Events Director Kelly-Ann Williams, said work on organizing the show is going ahead despite the sudden resignation of Executive Director of the Dominica Festivals Committee, Claudine Springer, on August 12, 2016. Springer took on the position in June and was tasked with organizing the event.

She said a Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) team knows certain aspects of the festival so they “went back and we regrouped and then we just moved forward from where we’ve been.”

“We made changes where necessary,” she noted. “Mr. (Val) Cuffy came on and from now to the festival, we are just moving forward, we are not looking back.”

The WCMF was canceled last year due to the effects of TS Erika on Dominica.

The festival will be held this year from October 28 to 30.

I have every confidence that the team of Dominicans at the DFC headed by Val Cuffy can make this festival a tremendous success! I wish you best of luck and look forward to being at the festival to celebrate and have fun with family and friends.

I would like to know what percentage of tickets are handed out free to friends, family, assorted hangers-on and VIPS. Or is that a state secret?
