PHOTOS: Dominicans ‘play mas’ in Toronto

Sensayfor coverDominica was well represented at the Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival Grand Parade, in Toronto earlier this month.

Dominicans who participated in the parade appeared in a guest band named “Dominica! A Creole Paradise.”

There was a vibrant display of ‘Ole Mas’ wearing the island’s national dress the Wob Dwiyet and Jupe, along with traditional carnival costumes, the Sensay and Souswell Souwi, all reminiscent of the island’s first Carnival celebrations of the mid 1800’s.

Below are some photos from the event.

You must be one of the non-patriotic sellouts who played Mas with Scotiabank for $5.00 to wear a cheap t-shirt which was made in China. Shame on you all – Judas! What has Scotiabank done for you or Dominica lately??? Sacway malonet!

I AM DOMINICA – ARE YOU??

You, need to open your mind. This is Dominica’s heritage and if they wish to flaunt it for all the world to see and know, they have every right to do so. It is also promoting Dominica, our heritage and is a reminder of bygone years which we must not lose sight of.
We must be proud of our unique heritage. It is something no one can take away from us whether in the past, the present or in the future. More people of the world should know about it.
By the way, we are in the 21st century and not the 20th even though it is the year 2013. The 2st century commenced on January 1, 2000. The 20th century is behind us. It ended on December 31, 1999. It is gone. Keep that in mind when you express criticism.
      We are Dominicans. Are you?

If we do not know and celebrate where we came from, then we will never get to where we need to be! It is clear that you are lost – stuck in the 20th century! Now get busy & learn to appreciate &celebrate your history before it is too late for you!

Real from Dominica, advertisement money cannot pay for this exposure so lets all play our part and expose Dominica and Dominican culture. Just yesterday I paid a visit in my capacity as “MASTER” Technician to the college of Staten Island and right where I was performing my job was a Dominican flag hanging above the main stage. MAN! looking at our flag gave me goose bumps and I was elated and over joyed by that site. The individual present as director of the college inquired what country I migrated from? In a boastful and proud voice I said. The Common Wealth of Dominica SIR! And to top it out I proudly pointed out our flag to the gentleman. He immediately became a friend. All Dominicans lets represent Dominica no matter what part of the World we reside that`s what the Diaspora is all about. “I am Dominica”! Are You?
