The Midnite Groovers will be honored at Dominica’s 18th World Creole Music Festival this evening for the group’s contribution to creole music and rightly so.
Midnite Groovers has been in existence for over 40 years and for more than 20 of those years, the band has been at the forefront of efforts to keep cadence-lypso music alive.
Groovers, led by brothers Phillip and Marcel Mark, aka Chubby and Coe, has its genesis in another band, the Deltones which existed in Grand Bay in the late 60’s and 70’s.
The band would go on to become one of the most prolific exponents of cadence-lypso music with its rythmically tight and lyrically conscious compositions.
