Q95 nurturing local talent [photo gallery added]

Kisha Cuffy is one of the Q95 Talent Search finalists

The management of Q95 is exploring the possibility of an annual Q Talent Search World Tour.

According to Sheridan Gregoire, Chief Executive Officer of West Indies Communications Enterprise Ltd., operators of Q95 Radio, the winner of the Q Talent Search would get the opportunity to travel around the Caribbean, US, Canada and United Kingdom with Dominican artistes and performers based in Dominica and overseas.

He said this is one of management’s plans if adequate sponsors come onboard for the venture. “The event at each stop of the proposed world tour would be undertaken in collaboration with functional Dominican associations which exist in those locations of choice,” he added.

The media house is delighted to discover, nurture and promote the evolutionary performing art talent of Dominicans, Gregoire said at the press launch of the first annual Q Talent Search earlier in July.

The Q Talent Search radio show which began in March gave radio listeners the opportunity to call and sing a designated song. Host Matt Peltier and Co-host Jael Joseph made the choice as to who were the best singers of the song they selected. After the on-air singing trial random persons would call in and vote for their choice.

Joseph told Dominica News Online that persons knew the choice of song in advance.

“Matt and I would decide if they were sounding good enough … so we would just randomly pick voices that sounded the best … each finalist would be given a number [and] we had people calling from all over the world to vote,” she explained.

The 10 a.m. to 10: 30 radio show was held every Monday to Thursday. Joseph said up to six persons made it through daily.

Sixty singers were chosen from the radio show for a closed audition on July 12l. They were judged on music, singing and presentation by three judges on a score of 10. 32 singers were selected to go to the quarter finals on August 28. The semi-finals will be held on September 25 and11 finalists will be selected. The final competition is set for October 23 to select the ultimate Q Talent Search winner. These events are scheduled for the Harlem Plaza.

“Q95 also looks forward to working closely with the winner of the competition for a period of 12 months in launching and building his or her singing career on the local regional and international stage,” Gregoire noted.

He anticipates more sponsors will come on board for the talent search, and also guarantees that they will get value for their contributions.

Alani are you aware that these types of Shows get isponorship? Just because you are not privy to the funding by sponsors you suddenly have a problem with it. Q95 is tied to many other top notch financial holdings in Canada, so hush. Stop being so negative and bias. Why are you mad you can’t sing, or you mad you didn’t get in on the action and now you realise what is behind it you cant stand yourself?

This started out as a simple contest boosting morale and excitement concieved by Matt, suddenly the talent became better and grabbed the attention of listeners and sponsors, with time and quality performance more international and regional bodies got involved. Stop being a party pooper. We cry down everything in Dominica without having a clue.

    To Alani:
I just can’t understand how some people can be so negative. Do you think Q95 would get involved in such a venture if they could not afford it. You negative people sicken me. STUPES!!!
