Carnival queen contestants recieve sponsorship after plea by DFC

The contestants

A call for sponsorship for the 2012 carnival queen contestants has not gone unheeded as each of the seven young ladies who will vie for the title on February 17 has received at least part sponsorship so far.

Last week, organizers, the Dominica Festivals Committee (DFC) urged private sector businesses to come forward and support the contestants – at the time only one of them had received sponsorship.

Events Director of the DFC Natalie Clarke-Meade told a press conference on Wednesday that each of the girls had received support to the tune of $6,000 and more.

The Bullseye Pharmacy was the first to come on board to provide sponsorship.

“We are now pleased and happy that all of our girls for carnival have been part sponsored,” Clarke-Meade stated.

The contestants this year are; Kimberly Jno Charles  of St. Joseph, Fancille Lavinier of Pichelin, sponsored by Bullseye Pharmacy, Nadira Lando of Bataca/Pointe Michel, Ameka Cognet of Elmshall, Indiana Griffith of Goodwill and Shanel Dubique of Petite Soufriere.

They are sponsored as follows:
·         KIMBERLY JNO. CHARLES – SPONSORED BY PDV CARIBE (DOMINICA) LTD/DFC

·         FANCILLE LAVINIER – SPONSORED BY BULLSEYE PHARMACY INC.

·         AMEKA COGNET – SPONSORED BY A&P SOLUTIONS/DFC

·         NADIRA LANDO – SPONSORED BY PDV CARIBE (DOMINICA) LTD/DFC

·         INDIANA GRIFFITH – SPONSORED BY THE SIGN MAN/ DFC

·         SHANEL DUBIQUE – SPONSORED BY DFC

I was very proud to show my fellow co-workers
the beautiful Dominican girls. May the best girl win. Its very nervewracking and takes a lot of courage to be on that stage with a very hard critical and unforgiving crowd watching you like vultures just waiting for you to fail so they could sink their teeth into your flesh. smdh

    January 27, 2012

pusina you suffering from low self esteem or what? To give a complement you need to reach and try to bring down others? To you and all the haters, cynics and whatever: I DARE YOU to harvest a pack of balls, (or better yet God’s gift to women,) and with limited resources and time, strut your colorful/ flattering posterior across that stage before a DOMINICAN crowd, then come back. (Wheel and come AGAIN!) In defense of all past and present queen contestants. Persons like you sit there and objectify and belittle women and see the pageant as something to satisfy only your carnal lustful satisfactions or simply to elicit entertainment for your pea-brained selves as you mock, and without objectivity or any understanding or incite as to what it involves to be a contestant in pageantry, WORSE – Dominica’s ‘Miss Dominica Pageant’, you stand there and thrash someone daring enough to take up the challenge that YOU CANNOT HANDLE but want to critic, whilst they attempt to do something positive to reach a worthwhile goal! You mock but I pity you! Because whilst persons like you sit there and look at life with ‘what ifs,’ or wondering whether or not you ever had an inkling of what it takes to do something new and different to go beyond your own expectations, it takes real solid women to step up and face the challenge; regardless of the circumstance or outcome: before a large crowd –spotted by only a mere handful of well-intentioned, constructive-minded individuals, but drizzled by a dash of knuckle-headed, narrow-minded, mindless spectators of your type, who, intimidated by some things different, use this show as an opportunity to marginalize the efforts of brave young women for sport as in a brothel. However, whilst you entertain yourself, other people are attempting to have the nuts to make a childhood dream or educational opportunity come true, which is MORE, I’m sure, than God is presently saying for you. The adage stands true; Small minds sit back and gossip and talk of others, whilst Great minds discuss ideas and try to make a change/a difference/ or try to do something significant with their lives. For better or worse at least they tried. So why don’t you and others of your similitude shovel-down this bit, down your ‘repertoire’ of expertise. To the ladies brave enough to follow after the torch in life that lights within them: BRAVO to You!!!! Keep striving for what is good and what is right, let God be your guide and anchor in life and He’ll do the rest, just continue to give your effort. Life is a journey and sometimes a battle: You must face it head-on. Failures are sometimes only a prelude to success. Only learn from them and pick yourself up if ever you should fall cause the truth of life’s matter is; it’s that the battle ain’t over till you’ve crossed the finish-line, and as long as you still have life you have not finished the race. Every day you breathe the book is still opened. -ONLY YOU get to fill out the pages of what’s written and you can fill it with whatever you like. If the script’s not right put in a new chapter, or better yet; rewrite the WHOLE BOOK! Don’t run from any mistake or set-backs. Be an intelligent mind, learn, reflect and EVOLVE! In life it is necessary to have opposition; because if you never came to know what was wrong; you would never know what is right. The key is to use each experience and opportunity as a catalyst from which to grow regardless of how bad it is. Choose within yourself to seek after the right outcome. With faith, and belief in Father God, He will take you where you need to go. Encourage yourselves and Just remain solid. There is only one ultimate Judge; and it ain’t man/ mortal flesh. ……Blessings and Good Luck on the 17th to ALL contestants, including my favorite. Fear is not of God; Have NONE. Don’t seek for strength without. Know that from the beginning God has already planted it within. Let NO ONE allow you to feel inferior to the person whom God has created you to be. (And this lesson is for EVERYONE,) Rise ABOVE EVERY challenge, because with the exception of Jesus Christ, there isn’t, wasn’t and will never be any perfect man to walk under the sun until His return and redemption. Live your life the best YOU can. And live it LOOKING UP. (Past Queen Contestant)

One thing I have observed over the years is that many domonicans(usually women) take this period to make cheap shots at the beaty queens.
It takes a lot of guts to step up to this pageant challenge, so I we should be encouraging them as much as we can instead of just throwing silly punches at them. I interprete this depraved practise as PURE JEALOUSY.
These women are all beautiful and most significanly very courageous something I cannot say of most of the contributers here.

    January 26, 2012

I am happy that the girls have finally gotten sponsorship.I do have a concern .Why is it, that every year we have to beg for sponsorship. We have been doing the same thing year after year ,not taking the time out to consider the reasons for this .I am of the view that the queen show coomittees’ commitment to the improvement of the show itself is not priority. We have the same person leading that committe(Queen Show Cartel: mother ,daughter ,husband ,sister inlaw and brother ) for too long .I think their time has long expired. They have continually, shortchanged our girls, ill treated our girls ,show undeniable biasness towards certain girls and most importantly manipulated the outcome of the show one way or another for to many years, and no one can do anything about that. This cartel needs to be disrupted, and then we will see an influx of sponsorhip, better prepared girls, experience chaperons and a more modern show . Why is everyone afraid of the cartel. The person or persons that can institiute that change , should take the bull by the horn, step up!You will all agree that this show is dying a slow dead.Do we want that ? This change is totally inevitable.

It seems that this type of behavior is not exclusive to one caribbean island. What’s the matter with our people? What happened to the golden rule? Did we not learn anything from our beloved parents? Now with regard to the sponsorship thing, you mean to tell me that an island the size of Dominica won’t support native talent? It’s called giving back. Without these you and beautiful young ladies I might add, where would their businesses be? Not only does it provide inexpensive advertising for each business, it is the right thing to do. These young ladies will be tomorrows leaders, doctors lawyers and what have you. I would think the fact that one of you once sponsored one of these girls, would bring a measure of joy and satisfaction knowing full well that your contribution however large or small went towards helping that young lady achieve her dream. Merchants, don’t be a tichtwad.

I don’t get it? Why Dominica carnival association always has to kiss and beg business people before they can be sponsor! Look at Trinidad, SVG & St Lucia, businesses put in there sponsorship before they ask, there Carnival are so productive and commercialize. Every year you can expect the best, it’s time for Dominica carnival to start being productive and start competing with the region carnival if they wants to attract more wealthy businesses and to be more recognize around the world… start carnival commercial in the regional on their TV and newspaper, and believed be you will get result.

And Maybe for those future hopefuls who want to participate in the event should first seek sponsorship from their employers (first place of support) and then go out there to the shops and boutiques for support on the jewelry and clothing these things could be sponsored but also help the personalities show that they are versatile in making things work for themselves. A true queen don’t sit around a hope for patrons to pay up= show your face and personality and we’ll be there for you. Whilst this will boost marketing for some of the small businesses here too.

Every year it is getting worse with sponsers. and even the girls are looking less like queen contestants.

Good job Mrs. Clarke-Meade. But can you start signing up the young ladies in August and by October get the sponsorship deals locked up?

That last minute thing makes your organization look very Mikey Mouse. There is no need to have these young ladies all stressed up wondering if someone is going to sponsor them.

exactly girls need to be given a deadline by which they can sign up so that they can be introduced to the public early enough
