Seven young ladies of the Dominica State College (DSC) will battle it out for the title of Miss Mas Jamboree 2015 carded for February 12.

They are Brianna Vidal, 18 of Bioche, Karla Henry, 19 of Mahaut, Tamika Balson, 18, of Fond Canie, Alwina Thomas, 19, of Penville, Sherika Winston, 18 of Bath Estate, Sherisse Fabien, 17 of Grand Bay and Shantell George, 18 of Fond Cole.

The young ladies were launched at a ceremony held at the DSC on Wednesday.

They will compete in four segments: including talent, evening wear, thematic wear, and question and answer.

Director of Student Services at the DSC, Edgar Hunter told Dominica News Online (DNO) that the show was introduced to enhance cultural awareness among students.

According to him, “the Mas Jamboree is a combination of the Miss DSC pageant, also part of that we have a band splash which will feature some of Dominica’s top bands and also we have a calypso segment which usually feature Dominica’s top calypsonians.”

“The event started as a small mustard seed and has grown into a real big event,” he said.

He stated that Mas Jamboree has paved the way to help shape many young women for the National Queen Pageant.

“It looks like every year now the queen show features people from the Mas Jamboree,” he noted.

Hunter said organizers are still working to secure a venue to host that event.

The reigning Miss Mas Jamboree is Ayanna St Rose.
