Stardom calypsonians urged to live up to expectations

LIME'S Country Manager Jeffrey Baptiste presents cheque to Chairman of the Stardom Tent Norman Letang

A well-known calypsonian and events promoter has advised calypsonians participating in the Stardom Calypso Tent to live up to the expectations of the corporate sponsors that have given their financial support to the show.

“I want to let my friends at Stardom Tent know that the sponsorship that we’re receiving from the corporate community is not charity; it’s not given to you because they love you, it’s given to you because they want to forge a
partnership with you,” Events Director of the Dominica Festivals Committee Val Cuffy said this morning at the press launch of Stardom Tent in the LIME press conference room.

He described the partnership as a very serious one, adding “We have to ensure that every Wednesday night that we live up to expectations.”

“Calypsonians must come on time, start the event promptly, band on time. The people like Nath Isaac and Dangleben prepare the branding on time [and] get the products, get everything done because these people are giving you funds
from limited budgets at this time,” Cuffy informed.

He further encouraged calypsonians to prepare to be productive with the corporate partners, to move the Stardom Tent to “the next level.”

Cuffy anticipates this season’s Stardom Tent will be very exciting with good quality and high level performances.

“We’re going to have two [Stardom shows] in the out districts … people must come out; bring your family, bring your friends… you’re free to come out to listen to really good calypso. There are 20 great calypsonians performing every night … Calypso is the main ingredient to our carnival,” he noted.

Chairman of the Stardom Tent Norman Letang has also guaranteed calypso lovers of a ‘gigantic’ season.

“Stardom Tent this year promises to be huge; it promises to be gigantic. We have 20 calypsonians and they are clearly among the best we have in Dominica. You can’t look for anything better. I have been privy to hear oneor two of the songs already and there’s a lot of promise in the tunes,” Letang assured.

The Stardom Tent Calypsonians are Scrunter, Dino, Checker, Intruder, Mighty DBS, Daddy Chess, Man Himself, Bassy, De Observer, Tarina, Lord Karessah, Picky, Son of the Saint, Pawol, De Hunter, Jamma B, Lady Star, Leandra, Tasha P and Val ‘Young Bull’ Cuffy.

The headline sponsor of the show is LIME. For the past few years Digicel has been the headline sponsors of the show.

According to LIME’s Country Manager Jeffrey Baptiste, it is a historic period for his company and a big day for calypso.

He is particularly pleased that LIME has forged a partnership with Swinging Stars – the Stardom band.

LIME’s contribution is in the region of $55,000 in cash and kind. Other sponsors are the Dominica Brewery and Beverages Ltd., Belfast Estate Ltd agents of Soca Rum and Red Cap contributed $9,000; Scotia Bank contributed
$6,000 and Courts donated $5,000.

The representatives of the companies said that the assistance will be given in cash and kind.

The official opening of Stardom Tent is slated for Sunday at 9 p.m., and every Wednesday afterwards. The show will be staged at Krazy Kokonuts.

Positivedominican?? what’s positive about telling people to shut up?
And the comment had nothing negative about the tent, just the owner/venue.
And what does this have to do with elections, you people are so caught in politics, everything revolves around it, keeping the country back.
Hatred? re read your comment, see who displayed hatred.
    Have a great carnival season.

calypso peeps, STOP THE HATRED MAN!! Leave Crazy Tee and Krazycoconuts out of your nonsense. The elections is over. Most Dominicans continue to support all activities held at Krazycoconuts and I am sure STARDOM TENT will continue to get the big crowds. If you have nothing good to say about the tent, then please just shut up!!!!

IT could be a very compititive season if some of the other BUSINESS HOUSES would stept up to the plate and support the PRESIDENT’S TENT. or MASS CAMP and make the CALYPSO FLOW

i think DICE in CONCERT is a good card for the season, last year he had a good show at Halem plaza, i feel it should be repeated with a few new songs, and take it to some of the others towns or villages. The band did a good job backing him up.I know calypso is bigger than anyman it is also bigger than any band. The Arawak House of Culture or Halem Plaza, would be a good venue. I hope his management team is doing something, cause WHEN ONE DOOR IS CLOSE don’t sit and cry over spill milk . “DICE AGAIN” ON MY OWN” you can do it .GOOD LUCK.

What a pity the Stardom tent is at Kokonuts.
Many do not patronize the place due to owner,
no respect for people of this country and so many disregard that fact.
Also, its a negative for Hoteliers in the area………Tourism is everybody’s business ?
hell no, its all lip service on the Governments part. Not forgetting the residents of Castle Comfort.
Come on people ……regain some self respect………
Say no to Krazy, d kokonut.

They must consider having some shows in the north. We deserve a few of the good times to we hve space and for sure there will be pple. The carnival shows are to centralized, need to spread out to differnt districts.
