Stardom moves to another venue

Stardom patrons at Sisserou

The next staging of Stardom Tent will be not be held at the Reigate Downtown, or Sisserou Hotel, as that venue is more popularly known.

Stardom Management has taken a decision to to move the event from Sisserou to the Harlem Plaza, as of next week.

Stardom Tent promoter, Leroy Wadix Charles, told DNO that Stardom’s decision stems from a problem that has been brewing since last year whereby the proprietors of the Sisserou have been breaching certain aspects of their agreement with Stardom Tent concerning their two main sponsors, Kubuli and Redcap Rum.

“When we go out and the seek sponsorship, we sign various agreements with the sponsors and in particular those two. We told them that their drinks will be exclusively sold and that is the reason and so they themselves giving us the sums of cash that they have given us,” Charles stated.

Charles says the owners of Sisserou Hotel agreed to that arrangement. However, he says unknowing to Stardom Tent, hotel management have not been honouring the agreement and as a result, their sponsors have threatened to pull their sponsorship if the matter was not resolved.

“So last evening again we made a final plea to the owners of the place that we needed to solve this problem; let us see how we can solve this and they were very disrespectful to us and they actually told me in person that nobody will tell them which drinks to sell in their bar,” he noted.

Charles says the matter was discussed at a Stardom management meeting last night and the decision was taken to move to another venue so as not to lose their sponsors.

“So all our equipment, the branding, the stage that was set up to accommodate the activity was broken down last evening and we are now heading to the Harlem Plaza for this week’s edition of Stardom Tent,” Charles remarked.

According to Charles, the next two Stardom Tents will be held at Harlem Plaza while Carnival City will be the venue for the Monarch of the Tent which si Stardom’s final event for the season.

He says with sponsors threatening to pull out, Stardom had no choice but to find another venue.

Charles admits that the move from Sisserou Hotel could have some effect on Stardom Tent’s patronage.

“There may be,” he says. “Because Sisserou is home of the tent, people love the Sisserou Hotel.I can tell you now I actually love the Sisserou, the setting, the ambiance. It gives you a nice feeling when you are in there and I would have preferred to run a tent at the Sisserou Hotel but there’s a certain lack of respect that an organization cannot go through.”

That is why we must not criticize each other too much when one makes a move forward, sometimes the circumstances make it so, as it is in this scenario….I cannot see why the Managemant of the Hotel cannot keep the contract You get business for your place be glad…Hospitality service covers everything…Harlem will be fine…

Whiskey selling for more money and is that people were calling for, not red cap and kubuli.

Hi, I can’t see how Mr Charles can sign a contract with his two sponsors documenting that only their beer will be sold at the bar if he do not control the bar. The hotel management did not sign a contract with his sponsors. This contract is only valid if the tent had a separate bar at the hotel. Anyway am coming home for carnival so please get thing together because I want to have a good time. Harlem Plaza is a nice location for this type of event.

Your comment makes no sense. If Stardom entered an agreement with its sponsors that only their product would be sold and Stardom’s agreement with the owners of Sisserou was that they would only sell the products of Stardoms sponsors that is a proper agreement. If the owners of the place agreed to only sell the products of stardom’s sponsors they have to do just that.

      • January 19, 2013

Hi, Sisserou Hotel is a corporation therefore Mr Charles cannot sign a contract on their behalf . He can only sign such contract with his sponsors if he controlled the bar. Most of the money at such events are made at the bar therefore the hotel is not going to give up the bar. I can guarantee that Mr Charles cannot show where the manager of the hotel sign his contract giving him such rights to the bar or such guarantee to his sponsors. Maybe Mr Charles wrote the contract himself and he don’t understand contractual law therefore his contract was not legally sound. You are talking about agreement but I am talking about a legali binding document. Anyway let us all have a safe carnival so we can enjoy ourselves .

For those of you who thought Mass Camp was not telling the truth here comes Stardom with the same issue,so i want to hear what all you have to say now. These venue owners dont respect sponsors and they have to be taught a lesson. They will have the same problem at harlem plaza if the owner is given the bar to run just wait and see.

    January 17, 2013

Come to think of it.. it was a good move that Mas Camp moved or else the possibility of getting the venue or another suitable venue would be chaotic.

Here goes Deb. Never see come see we are told? You mean two experienced business people cannot understand what it is to have a contract and sponsorship agreements? Now that the tent has moved, I would like to see them go ahead and bring the crowds to the Sisserou to sell any and wahtever drinks he wants in his place. Let us see him do just that.

  19. right
    January 17, 2013

Itz time more management teams make these sorts of decisions; so as to teach some arrogant people that there are implications for not complying with contractual terms…this could have resulted in the tent being sued as it received sponsorship on the basis that there would be exclusiveness…. Calypso is Calypso so the fans will follow….Now who lose out?

You see the problem with people short term greed and foolishness.

A band pays rent to have an event at your venue and you have agreed to negotiated terms and conditions for the staging of that event then you dishonor the agreement.

I hope the imported drinks company pays you for loss of revenue for the next few weeks and years to come.

Some business people have a hard time understanding agreements and market branding.
