Stardom Tent will be taking on a new format in 2013, treasurer of the tent, Arthur “Bassie” Pascal, has revealed.
According to Pascal all calypsonians will not be performing on the same night, as it was done in the past. “Usually all Stardom calypsonians sing on the same night but we’re going to break it down into about 15 calypsonians per night since we have a lot of new calypsonians, plus the more experienced ones,” he told Dominica News Online.
The tent will be launched on Thursday January 3, 2013 at Calypso House and will begin the following Saturday at the Sisserou Hotel.
Pascal pointed out that the calypsoes for the 2013 tent are very impressive and patrons should expect a good show.
He also indicated that sponsorship for the show has been secured.
Meanwhile, one of the organizers of Showdown Mas Camp, Daryl Bobb, has said that a change in the venue for the 2013 tent is the biggest challenge being faced.
According to Bobb, the location of the show was moved from the Harlem Plaza to the Public Service Union (PSU) grounds since sponsors said they were not getting value for money.
“We are trying to turn the location into a carnival village, a proper entertainment venue complete with a VIP booth and a covering for the comfort of our patrons in case of inclement weather,” he told DNO.
He added that the number of performers will be consistent with other years and the show’s main focus is to give value to sponsors.
Bobb also noted that patrons should look out for a few new calypsonians at the show.
“We at Showdown Mas Camp see the importance of giving the young calypsonians a chance to show their talent. So this year we have a few new calypsonians who will be participating in our tent,” he remarked.
Showdown Mas Camp will begin on Friday January 11, 2013.

Re Harlem Bombers are yu aware dat Domlec, Dowasco, Lime et al will cut off their services (bare essentials at that) for less than $50 so why can’t the man ask for his just dues from these KFC junkees. And yes MC paid $15k but it cost $25k to host the season so guess who put up the xtra $10k. Right, my friend, the Owner Who Can do Anything. If the owner of the plaza can lock out the gym ppl for $300.00 he can do anything.
Stop talking without having all the facts, the sponsors got alot of trouble with the owner of the plaza.
1. he would sell drinks from non sponsors.
2. the sponsors couldnt brand the place with their flyers as they wanted too.
There are many other reasons:
The band and calypsonians were also given trouble to practice. the owner likes ppl to beg him for his place. you dont beg when you pay CASH.
so please get all the facts before all you start talking. At the end of every show the owner was paid cash. paying him was not the issue, his attitude is the issue.
wow…. am trying to imagine how they will set up this new venue for mas camp. just hope the neighbors will not complain about noise disturbances for the season. anyways all the best for the upcoming season.

I want to try to understand how changing venues will add value for the sponsors. The ideal location was the Plaza. Mass Camp must not thr that. Are they moving because they have not paid their rent? They must pay up if they are owing. Is Bobb taking Dominican for moroons and giving that flimsy excuse. Come better than that. Admin, do not delete my comment please.
Which is it? the 5th or the 11th for showdown? I am getting conflicting dates. If its the 13th, I must say that’s pretty late guys.
