Tammika Tavernier, of Soufriere, has been crowned the first ever Miss Summer 2015 Queen.
She outperformed three other contestants to take home the title at the pageant which was held at the Soufriere Basketball Court on Friday.
Tavernier also won the awards for Best Talent, Best in Swim Wear, Best in Summer Fashion Wear, Best Evening Wear, Most Dedicated and Miss Photogenic.
Her prizes include a ticket compliments L’ Express Des Iles, a cake from Yummy Bites Delight and a complete manicure and pedicure from Shuns Nails.
Merlina Nation of Marigot secured the first runner-up spot, and copped the awards for Best Response to Question, Best Swim Wear and Best Summer Fashion Wear.
She received a cake from Fran’s Patisseries and a gift; both purchased by one of the organizers of the event.
Hendrica Smith of Salisbury received the second runner-up position and captured the People’s Choice Award. She received a Manicure and Pedicure from Bellaz Spa and Nails in Portsmouth.
Jamie Henderson of Woodford hill grabbed the 3rd runner-up position.
Henderson captured the awards for Miss Amity and Best in Evening Wear. She also received a gift from the organizers.
All contestants received a gift voucher from the Healthy Wellness Centre in Roseau.
In an earlier report Dominica News Online (DNO) mentioned that five young ladies would vie for the title, however main organizer of the event, Malissa Jno Lewis told DNO on Monday that due to circumstances, Kennisha Nicholas dropped out a day before the pageant was staged.
Jno Lewis stated further that although the pageant was held for the first time in that area it was “very successful”.
“The turnout was good,” she said.
According to her organizers are looking into having the event held on an annual basis.
What is the show called? I thought Halloween was in October. These are not my favorite kind of contestant. Sorry they are not beauty pageant type. their outfits are ugly and ridiculous. Make up would have made them stand out.
Oh my, not another pageant!!!
Lets hope this will be the first and last of this non event. Typical Dominicans we are so lazy and without an original thought, we like the easy way out in everything we do. Far too many of those nonsensical PAGEANT.
I wouldn’t agree that the pageant was rubbish or it was nonsense I would say it was good to get our young ladies into positive activities something that will be up lifting , I just believe the organizers should take the positive comments and improve on it try another title instead of Miss Summer build on it and you will see how much the public and sponsors will come around .Maybe it’s time that we should try to have a MULTICULTURAL pageant think about it.
When does this crap end in Dominica? Is this what young women should aspire to? What about summer camp – education, agriculture, technology etcc
fete, fete, fete that is all dominicans are worth.
Another Tavernier tops! Congratulations to you young lady.
Congratulations to the others who placed second and third.
Keep up the talent, take good care of yourself and live well.
I see nothing wrong in every village having their own Queen, Beauty Show and also Fashion and Talent Show, if they so wish. There are some beautiful women in every part of Dominica. In fact, Dominica is known for its beautiful women.
Gone are the days when everything was Roseau and in Roseau. This makes them proud of their community and also gives them an opportunity to showcase their beauty and talents. Practice makes perfect. Keep it up!
Absolute nonesense
