Singers and entertainers of Caribbean descent will band together to put on a charity benefit concert in aid of the victims in the Commonwealth of Dominica, in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Erika.
The Commonwealth of Dominica Ontario Association (CDOA), The Jamaican Canadian Association (JCA) and radio station G98.7FM – The Way we Groove, are joining forces to host a major fundraising concert, for the island of Dominica, formally known as the Commonwealth of Dominica, which was devastated by Tropical Storm Erika on August 26.
The concert, titled “Let’s Get Together for Dominica: A Diaspora Relief Concert” will be held at the JCA Centre at 995 Arrow Road in Toronto, on Friday September 25th.
The Commonwealth of Dominica’s Trade and Investment Commissioner in Canada, Frances Delsol, says the concert is one of several initiatives that will be undertaken.
These activities will help to raise urgently needed funds to assist the many victims of Tropical Storm Erika.
According to Ms. Delsol, “Prime Minister of The Commonwealth of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit, has announced the estimated damage from the storm to be approximately $1 billion dollars (EC). Ms. DelSol also states, “The need for assistance will continue well into the future, as the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica faces the highly unusual situation of relocating two entire villages, in addition to repairing infrastructure across the island.”
Thirty (30) performers of Dominica and Caribbean descent will showcase their talents at the concert. The lineup includes very popular entertainers like Marcia Brown, Calypso Queen Macoumere Fifi; Juno Award winning artist Lazo, Structure, Django, Letna Allen-Rowe, Little Edward, DJ Corey, DJ Reid, CDOA Cultural Dancers. Levi “Super L” Loblack, Monty, Pastor Shirley Simpson, Kay Morris, Novelys, King Cosmos, Susan G, Masini McDermott, Dick Lochan, Hermina George, Ilie Kochie, Dance Caribe, Pannist James Gregoire, and many more artists. The event will also include live and silent auctions, and a grand prize raffle draw.
All proceeds of the Diaspora Relief Concert will go directly to disaster relief in the Commonwealth of Dominica. The CDOA also has ongoing appeals for cash donations through a GoFundMe campaign (http://gofundme.com/DA-ErikaReliefFund), which has been sanctioned by the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica, and to the organization’s Emergency Fund at the Bank of Montreal (Transit #2924, Account #8330-256).
The CDOA also accepts non-perishable donations at various locations around Toronto. Contact [email protected] to find out the location nearest to you, or visit the organization’s website: www.domincaassociation.ca.
