Thirty to clash in calypso quarter finals

Vigilante in action at the 2012 calypso quarter finals

Thirty calypsonians will take to the stage in the calypso quarter final of the 2013 calypso competition, carded for January 12.

The twelve who were selected at the eliminations held recently will join the semi-finalists of last year to vie for a spot among the top twenty who will move on to the next round.

Daryl Bobb, Executive member of the Dominica Calypso Association, revealed that the January 12th show will be held at the Newtown Savannah from 8:30 pm.

According to him the show was held at a different location last year because of an agreement with the Dominica Festivals Committee. However, this year, the venue used prior to the agreement will be used again.

“We are not anticipating any new challenges. The only usual challenges are the price of services and rental of items that are necessary for the show like tents and stages,” he said. “Prices have been going up in recent years and that has always posed a challenge. However, we just adapt to that because the show must go on.”

Has the Dominica Calypso Association accepted Peter Prosper’s decision that he stays down to allow Miller from Morne Pros to sing? That’s a great gesture to begin 2013….. Wish more “Dominicans” would do like wise……

Yeah..but guess what with the exception of Scunter, all the meypuis over the last few years has been against the government and its functioning. However, as we have sen this really has no impact on our collective social discourse, thinking and action. If it had, your government would have long been booted out. How unfortunate!

Please do not rationalize the meypuis to those who write the Calypso. For example, whereas Pat may have written Daddy’ Mliller’s song about the illegality of the President, the Commissioner and the president…as a young man that is just what he and many other young people believe. We see and her or corruption, “teething” and in light of the failure of the police to act because of the serious interference of the politicians- we ask Mano to give them baballen.

What is Bob really saying? This article is so confusing.
By the way Bob you and Pat are killing Mas camp with you all personal issues. Bring back Mas Camp to its home at Harlem Plaza. I spoke to Bobby and he said he is willing to negotiate. Forget the little chips on you all shoulder and do the honourable thing. PSU is not ideal for the camp

Bobby playing politics too. He looking for what he can get from government. He jealous of what Kazy-T getting. They are all greedy businessmen and will not give a young man a chance because he sings about an illegal PM

      • January 5, 2013

And I hear that Bobby wants to be the next Parl. Rep for the Valley!!!!!!!!! Hmmmnnn!!!

Respect to your Bobby but you may first have to come under the scrutiny of the Roseau Valley to compete for the Valley seat against Collin.

This is poor and irresponsible journalism at its finest. At least DNO you can provide us with those who made it through the eliminations and those who are already in the Quarter Finals.

If you read that story you will realize that Daddy Miller was not given a chance. Even the pictures of those who made it are posted.

We loooking forward to the Ghost (the President of the Calypso Association), who sang an song he presented to the public over a year ago will give way to a youngman who sings about the illegality of teh PM, the President and the Commissioner

I agree. The Morneprosper guy should move forward ahead of at least Ghost. Come on. Because he is new. I do know the gentleman, but was much better the aa few that made it thru including Ghost.
