Top notch performances have been promised for the 2011 Soca Monarch competition as grand event approaches.
The event is expected to be held on Friday beginning at 8 p.m. at the Pottersville Savanah.
This morning, a number of competitors who addressed a Dominica Festival’s Committee press conference, pledged to put on show stopping performances.
Chester “Daddy Chess” Letang will look to defend his crown against several leading local performers such as Dennison “Dice” Joseph, Gregg “2Greedi” Letang, Skinny Banton and Beno.
The show is expected to have two segments; the groovy and power rounds.
“The park is gonna be blazing!” Daddy Chess promised.
The performers, as they will appear in order of appearance in the groovy round, will be; Skinny Banton with a song entitled ‘Send a Blessing’, Earl ‘Ninja’ George with ‘Carnival Feeling’, and Dennison ‘Dice’ Joseph with ‘Grown and Sexy’.
Carleen Xavier will bring ‘Music Fever’ while Rahmadin Phillip will sing a tune called ‘Addicted’. Beno will sing ‘Can’t Get Enough’, 2 Greedy with ‘Foreigner’ while Zharina Royer will bring ‘Tempo’. Clint H will perform his new single ‘First Price’ and Phillip Horseford of Swinging Stars is bringing a track entitled ‘Dancing Shoes’ to the competition.
In the power round the performances will be in the following order;
Skinny Banton with a song entitled ‘Wild Out’, Carleen Xavier -‘Like a Fanatic’, Daddy Chess – ‘Shameless’, Clint H – ‘Riot’, Jah Fox – ‘Get Ready Jump Up’, Anwar Cadette – ‘Release’ , Vincent Henderson – ‘Girl Can Wine’, Falcon the Don or Carleon James – ‘Get On’, Delton Delly Alfred – ‘Sweat’, and Earl ‘Ninja’ George with ‘On The Road’.
Musical accompaniment will be provided by Fanatik Band.
The competition will be followed by an International Bouyon Night segment in which top bouyon bands will perform.
The soca monarch winner will compete in the international monarch in Trinidad next year.

daddy chess will not be defending his crown against Dice, Nor Beno or 2greedy because daddy chess is only competing in the power segment of that show and the three mentioned will only compete in the groovy.
