US-based Dominican reggae artiste releases new song, video

A shot from the video

Smooth, rhythmic, Lover’s Rock-type roots reggae. These are the words used to describe his style of music by emerging reggae artist Ras Khaleel.

The Portsmouth-native, born Rogers Gin, is looking to take his career to the next level with the release of the soulful single ‘I Surrender.’

The song, which features Dominican songstress Scarlett (Louise Julien) is based on a tried-and-true lover’s rock theme; a man asking his lady to surrender her heart to him. The track’s instrumental: the ‘Grounded Riddim’ was produced by T&T producer Rasta Grammy, while the vocals were recorded and engineered by Christon Azille of IMC Inc.

Plans are in place to promote the single in the United States. Khaleel considers this a natural progression to a career which has seen him singing with various bands at events such as Creole in the Park, opening for the TOK Band, and performing at SOBs in New York.

Ras Khaleel is presently based in Manhattan, New York but is planning a move to California. The music video was shot during a recent three week visit to Dominica. Its visuals were directed, filmed and edited by Chad Ambo of Ambo Visuals.
