VIDEO: Tribute to Prime Minister Pierre Charles (1954-2004)

Today marks the anniversary of the death of  Pierre Charles who served as Dominica’s Prime Minister from 2000 to 2004.

As such Faiza Bannis and Camilo Charles (aka Che yung) created a video in his memory.

Pierre

About Pierre Charles

Pierre Charles (June 30, 1954 – January 6, 2004) was Prime Minister of Dominica from 2000 to 2004 as well as Member of Parliament for Grand Bay, Dominica from 1985 until his death.

He was born in Grand Bay in Saint Patrick parish. He began his high school education at the Dominica Grammar School and completed it at the St. Mary’s Academy before pursuing studies at the local teachers college. He served as a teacher and community organizer before entering elective office.

He became ill in February 2003, and had angioplasty surgery. Concerns about his health led to calls for him to step down. However, he continued to serve as prime minister until his death, which occurred during a medical leave of absence. Osborne Riviere acted as Prime Minister in Charles’ stead. However, upon return from his medical leave of absence, Charles succumbed to a heart attack while being driven home from a Cabinet meeting.

Charles was an Honorary Member of The International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation

Very beautiful !! Very positive tribute !!

Pierro, Che Guevara, Camilo Cienfuegos, Steve Biko, Kwame Nkruma, Amilcar Cabral and others, are plotting with Jesus to rescue the world from the brink of disaster. They will not rest until there is justice and equality in this world.

Continue to make your mom, the people of Grand Bay and the people of Dominica proud. The struggle continues !! Love you kids !! Love your mom!! Love South City!!

Awwww – how touching – my heart bleed for you guys. This is sooo hard he was a wonderful person. This is a good reminder to fathers to cherish, love, embrace your kids and never stop telling them how much you love them. Talk to them always and have a close knit relationship. And to children with fathers, adore, honor, love, respect your fathers while they are with you and tell them how much you love and appreciate them. Keep the relationship tight.

This is just wonderful you guys – i really felt for you. I pray God give you HIS peace forever.

The video should be balanced with excerpts from Tony Astaphan who exclaimed,” Where they were when Pierre Charles was stretching his hand for help.” That quote is extremely important due to the fact that now that same man, Tony Astaphan, who made the statement, is defending the continued wrongdoings of those he hypocritically accused of pressuring Pierro and stressing him out to the MAX. Did he really mean what he said at the time?

Since Pierro’s political involvement and unfortunate death while in Public Office was the cause of the making of the video, one can’t escape and must never forget those vicious and malicious behaviour that was meted out to him by his own colleagues. Disrespect, ridicule, threats of resignations, just to weaken his authority, were constant. Pierro himself indicated that he was not concerned about the opposition for criticizing him, since he expected that, but he was more worried about the power-hungry, self-centred, arrogant Party colleagues within. He lived it. He died with the stress of knowing such ruthlessness could be exhibited by some human beings.

Pierro was an angel, law-abiding, ordinary, simple human being filled with humility, and compassion compared to the disrespectful, dishonest, dictatorial leadership existing in Dominica today. The effort to produce the video as a tribute to Pierro is commendable. As a former labourite, who worked with Pierro, my eyes were filled with tears.

I have been in deep reflection since his death. I have since decided not to be corruptly enslaved and support those guys now in Govt. Excuse me, but I wonder how the lady in his life reacted after viewing that video. Somebody’s conscience must be hurting. How some persons are gullible. The age able folk always remind us that, ‘ Money make the Devil dance.’

    Lovely.

A magnificent display of pure talent. This man would have been proud by all means. Regardless how others may feel but you show that his light and his spirit lives on. A journey that he once started will continue and never end even if he is physically incapable. Charles loved you guys dearly. He showed it everyday that he could and everyday that God made. This man stood strong amongst adverse inequalities and set things at level to become equals. I loved him dearly and so did my family in Pichelin.

Continue to do well and shine above all. You guys have a loving mother and regardless what others might say or try to say, nothing can come between a family’s tie and bond. May God continue to richly guide and protect you as you have a father who is also looking down on you from above… Rest in Peace Mr. Pierre Charles. Your legacy shall live on in our hearts and generations to come.

nice song,,,,loved the woman vocals,,,,now when it comes to music i’ll critic,,,,the boy verse wasn’t well mixed,,,i listened to it in my beats by diddy headphones and the panning wasn’t right,,,in fact the engineer should not have panned the boys verse,,,should have left it like the ladies cause it causes noise,,,when panning voices the volumes of the pan should not be the same as the verse,,,or to make it simple,,,have one main verse and the rapper will add adlibs,,,such as repeating the ending of rhymes,,,,the those repitition of endings can be panned,,(after u make a copy of the repeats) pan one 50% left n 50% right,,,,then lower their volumes that they don’t interfere with the sound quality of the main verse,,,but that was a good song,,,it was an emotional one,,,i like it

That’s where u come and hide-out, u fraid to show ur face on the UWP articles about y’all ‘plans’ for 2011? Here i was thinking u got a job! sad…

Pierre Charles and family don’t need your hypocritical show of support ok? U want to reach all on the man’s wife and pretend your intentions r good?

U r one of the most ignorant people on DNO, you are very shallow and comment on everything at surface level. You lack the intelligence to analyze situations on ur own and simply repeat what you hear from your man-crush lennox linton.

You are also very uninformed for eg ur statement about people not carrying injured persons on private vehicles. Everyone knows that u should wait on professionals to move an injured person or you are likely to make the situation worse.

My advice to you is to spend your free time filling out some job or university applications to find something constructive to do wit ur time. UWI deadline for applications is Jan 31.

And that nonsense you do of using ,,,, between ur incoherent points is a travesty and an embarrassment to every English teacher you had in your lifetime.

Anti-Hate I thought that you did a good job lynching Mouth of the South . Sometimes I think that mouth of the south is a bit extreme. For example mouth of the South once made reference to Skerrit’s Mum hanging out at the carinage in Guadeloupe. That was distasteful.

You would wish that you had fired Roosevelt Madard Skerritt as a result of his insubordination, when as a junior minister without your knowledge and consent he went behind your back to negotiate with China.. This was a bad sign that you did not see, or saw but chose to ignore, you would have done Dominica a favor.. Pierro was a husband, a father, but he was also the PM of Dominica, so in paying tribute to him, it is too out of place to refer to his time in office. With all due respect to you Sir, I think you should make your comments and leave other people to make comments of their choice. I will go into more details of why I think it is not out of order to refer to a man’s term in office in response to a tribute to his life.. As a public official, especially the PM of a country, it is just impossible to avoid… Broaden your horizons a bit, Sir/ Madam… Could you imagine the kids of Ronald Regan paying tribute to him for no one to say anything about his time in office? Or the Prime minister of Barbados who died recently. Did you see the number of references to his office? You Dominicans are just too quick to comment of other people’s comments before thinking about or understanding what the person is saying… All you too damn fast. That’s all you problem, all you think all you have to tell everybody what to say and how to say what they want to say…

          i agree with you ghandi

I knew Pierre Charles. He was a friend of the family. He was a principled man sorrounded by wolves.

If Pierre Charles was still around i would have voted labour, but my mother did not raise me to reward crooks and back stabbers.
The people of Dominica insulted Pierre Chaarles more by rewarding and honouring those of his treacherous friends who led him to his grave then rushed to Grand Bay to shed crocodile tears.

May your sould rest in piece RIP Pierro.

Very touching. As someone who was touched by Pierro (he was my godfather), I can tell you for sure that he is proud of you, Faiza and Camilo. You do not have to worry. He was a good man.
