Yakima, Soul Puss, Peter Prosper are Champs of the Camp

Queen of Showdown Mas Camp, Myrtle “Yakima” Massicot receiving a gift from a Digicel Representative.

Myrtle “Yakima” Massicot won the Calypso Queen of Showdown Mas Camp, while a tie between David “Soul Puss” Pascal and Peter Prosper both got them the crown for Kings of Showdown Mas Camp.

While Yakima’s pre-election song ‘Looking for their Pocket” did not land her a spot at the Calypso Finals competition, she has won her first crown after some 10 years participating in calypso.

Newcomer Prosper is also popularly known for his pre-election tune ‘Ma Domnique Garbage Bin’. Although he erred at the semi-finals, he did not fail to top this competition.

Meanwhile, Soul Puss with his ‘Respect of A People’, also a pre-election calypso, will again have to impress on the judges enough to find him a place in the top three at the Calypso Finals carded for Saturday.

Kings of Showdown Mas Camp, Peter Prosper (L) and David “Soul Puss” Pascal (R) crowned by Soca Artiste Claudette Peters.

Mas Camp has good talent and a good show.
Congrats to the winners, though there should be one king.
    Show Went too late.
There was some scuffling at the gate and the security are very rough and gruff…..
never seen before, did not feel comfortable entering, its definately not a welcome at the gate.
But Mas Camp should keep up the good work, and just keep trying to sort out the little problems.
    Congratulations!!

Congratulations Yakima, well, well deserve…Harlem Representing
Congratulations to Prosper and Soul Puss…..Expecting the same from Soul Puss at the finals.

Please my people when you are commenting get the facts and her are some
    1. There was only one crown for the king. If you notice, this is two different pictures side by side,
each gentleman got a turn to wear the crown and had pictures taken.

    2. The show was late mainly because some of the guys had delayed/late practise sessions with
    Swinging Stars.

For love of country and self, lets think and talk after.

Mat Peltier always say it is better to be thought of as a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubts…..Love you Mat

Where did that third crown come from? Is there always 3 crowns available? This is the 1st time I am hearing about tie in calypso. I say only one person should be the winner.

the show was good but I think that the camp of the camp could have been given to one person. This should have been easy to break. Soul puss is my pick for the camp.

And Mas Camp, in the future please try to start your show on time. This shows lack of proper management of the activity.

Congratulations to Peter Prosper and David “Soul Puss” Pascal on their win as Kings of Showdown Mas Camp. You might not be the 2010 Calypso Monarch, but a win is a win and you both look great wearing those crowns. Good luck going forward, “Soul Puss.”

I am truly surprised by the judges from Mass Camp. That is just non-sense to tie Soul Puss and Prosper. This was Soul Puss’ Crown. No joint non-sense. I hope that these are not the same judges for the finals tomorrow. You mean to tell me that none of the judges had the balls/gull to see that even if they may have tied on paper, they should discuss and choose who should be King. I mean common sense should prevail. This is really discouraging for calypso.

It is high time we actually start to have people who can be fair and impartial to judge these things. Not because someone is a magistrate, priest, teacher or a big time accountant they know music or calypso. When Sye sang his song asking if judges know a C from a B flat he knew what he was asking and I was happy he was asking. I’m sure some of them know nothing about scales, majors and minors, just that they love to hear a calypso. I agree with Bobb making his statements in the media yesterday. Please do not pre-judge our calypso shows. That not right. These calypsonians put too much heart and passion into this to be robbing them like this.

Anyways, Congrats to Yakima…well deserved crown. The ladies really sounded good.

    February 12, 2010

Hey, I wonder if this wasn’t planned? You mean three crowns were at hand when they should have been expecting only two winners? Anyway bigup to the winners and Mascamp. Although almost all the songs there seemed to have been composed with mainly one purpose, I must admit that it seemed the livelier of the two camps. Let’s hope for some more variety in the calypso topics next year guys, now that the elections have long come and gone.

Hmmm Well Soul Puss things are looking up for you. Remain confident. Remain consistent in your performance tomorrow night. Don’t drink any thing cold on the night of the show. Khanar has plenty spice. drink your hot spice tea and honey. You have an opportunity to secure a place in this year’s competition, embrace it. Don’t take anything for granted. CONGRATULATIONS. You are my favourite calypsonia for the season. You have my support.
