Dominica’s whales are being featured on BBC1 throughout the month of August.
Three episodes of Ocean Giants – a nature documentary narrated by Stephen Fry and filmed by two of the worlds top underwater cameramen, Doug Allan (plant earth’s polar specialist) and Didier Noirot (Cousteau’s front-line cameraman) will be aired on BBC1 this month.
Ocean Giants grants a unique and privileged access into the magical world of whales and dolphins, uncovering the secrets of their lives as never before. The Section featuring Dominica was filmed in the open water off the Dominican coast, in September 2010, with Scientist Shane Gero, an experienced whale expert, and local guides, Andrew Armour and Pernell Francis.
The series gives us an insight to this group of animals which evoke such strong emotions, demonstrate a level of intelligence second only to us, and humble us with their gigantic presence. Ocean Giants is expected to blow the audience away with its extraordinary revelations and dramatic encounters, from fighting humpback whales to alien-like talking river dolphins.
Do not miss this wonderful documentary Series which airs on Sunday August 14, 21 and 28th on BBC1 at 9pm. For repeats please check bbc.co.uk/nature.
Great news for Dominica. Nature island of the caribbean.
Lovely promotion for the Nature Island.
I’m a dominican living in London, I’ve seen the program Ocean Gaints and not once did the narrator mentioned that it was Dominica. Am totally gutted that my country was not mentioned, it would have been so lovely to know that atleast part of it was flimed in my home land.
9 pm uk time. i do hope they mention our island because they have a habit of not. Even when pirates of the caribbean came out in tne news in the uk, they didn’t mention anything about D/ca…filmed in the caribbean, filmed in the Bahamas, but couldn’t mention DA even though the film crew spent so much time there.
Very Good PR for the Commonwealth of Dominica by BBC1. The Commonwealth of Dominica is definitely the Whale and Dolphin Watching Capital of the Caribbean… There is no better place to view these creatures than in the wild and no better destination to view them upclose and so close to shore than in the Commonwealth of Dominica.
Will we see it on local television, DNO?

Great News
Great promo for Domininica’s whale watching sector. I guess the PM’s withdrawal of support for Japanese whaling is paying off.Lets hope he does not reneg. However, based on the comments regarding the beached Pilot Whale on Purple Turtle Beach, I suggest that there must be more public awareness by Carib Whale and the Fisheries Division regarding whales in our waters. morning
Wonderful news! This is the kind of coverage we need more of.
Thanks DNO for keeping us informed and helping to spread the news.
