Minister for the Environment Dr. Kenneth Darroux has said Climate Change is a serious threat to Dominica and other developing countries.
Speaking at the official launch of the Million Hour Tree Planting Project on Monday he said climate change and other crises are challenging the ability of small island developing states such as Dominica to live sustainably.
“We are living in challenging times when the world is experiencing a financial recession like never before, the United Nations has recognized the special economic, social and environmental vulnerabilities of small island developing states, such as ours,” he said.
According to Darroux the effects of climate change are already being felt in the Caribbean. “The phenomenon of climate change has been well documented by the United Nations and other institutions over the past decade,” he pointed out. “The Commonwealth of Dominica and other small island developing states can speak of our experiences with the increasing intensity of hurricanes, drought, floods, destruction to coastal areas and sea level rise. These have had severe impacts on our agriculture, tourism, water and physical and coastal infrastructure …this has also led to an increasingly high cost for adaptation, resulting in the diversion of funds which otherwise would have been used for new social and economic development.
He concluded that climate change has therefore become a major threat to the ability of developing countries such as Dominica to achieve their millennium development goal.
The “Million Hour Tree Planting Project” is a new environment preservation program for Dominica which will see over 200,000 trees planted over a one-year period. The project is being coordinated by “Generation of Opportunities.”

Global warming is a hoax.Al Gore is a champion of this theory, even produced a movie showing how the sea is going to eat up all the land close to the sea shore, because of global warming.Yet, not to long ago he bought a house in California worth over us$8 million just by the beach.
