The Organization of the Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), in collaboration with its Competitive Business Unit (CBU) hosted ‘Climate Fest’, an Environmental Exhibition and Fair from May 5th – May 6th.
Climate Fest is an awareness building exercise to sensitize the public to climate change and environmental management and conservation.
The event was held at Windsor Park Sports Stadium and was open to the public. According to a press release, it sought to demonstrate the environmental projects that are working in Dominica as well as to raise awareness about the need for adaptation and mitigation programs to combat climate change.
The exhibition was held under the theme: “Solidifying our Collective Approach to Environmental Sustainability”.
The theme “will be demonstrated in various displays and will show the main climate change issues being faced by the region and some of the coping strategies being adapted and promoted,” the release, issued prior to the event, stated. “Other exhibitors will also feature various aspects of environment management and conservation,” it added.
The atmosphere of the exhibition was said to be vibrant and full of colour, demonstrating creative expressions, entrepreneurship, novelty and simulated gardens to embody the theme of the climate change and sustainable development.
Following the formal opening, the ‘Climate Fest’ was opened to the public on Friday (May 6) from 9:00 am- 6:00 pm and included visits by schools.
