Dominica to celebrate Earth Day

Tree planting as part of the activities celebrating Earth Day

Dominica will the join the rest of the world in observing Earth Day, on Friday, April 22, 2011. Earth Day is intended to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s Environment.

This year the day is celebrated under the theme ‘A Billion Acts of Green’; a people-powered campaign to generate a billion acts of environmental service and advocacy before Rio +20.

As part of activities leading to Earth Day, a tree planting ceremony organized by the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) was held at the Roseau Primary School where the students of the 4-H Club, with the guidance of proper planting tips from Mr. Cyril John, Forester 1 of the Division of Forestry, added a sugar apple tree to their flourishing school yard garden.

The DDA encourages all to incorporate sustainable practices in their daily activities; use only the water you need, dispose of solid and liquid wastes and medications safely, buy locally or grow your own, learn about composting, save energy at home by choosing energy-saving appliances, reduce, reuse and recycle.

Thank you the Discover Dominica Authority for choosing my school in which to plant this sugar apple tree; I hope that God will grant me life that I can enjoy one of its fruits in 2 – 3 years.

No word yet from the ECU bosses. Are they in Bancock, Souf orea of Cape Town ? It cannot be that they are on island and such an important international event is taking place and there’s still no word. So much for coordinating Dominica’s environmental agenda. the husband and wife combination at such a very important government run institution has to be a cause for concern PS . Carette and Minister darroux. What is happening to the issue of coordination locally?
