Dominican calypsonians converge on NY stage for King of Kings show

Caribbean nationals will be entertained by Dominica’s best, at the 9th annual King of Kings Calypso Extravaganza to be held on Saturday 21, August 2010 at the Elegant Tropical Paradise Ballroom, 1367 Utica Ave, Brooklyn, NY, at 10:00pm.

The King of Kings Calypso Extravaganza will turn the spotlight on 9 renowned Calypso Kings – Hunter, Scrunter, Dice, Daddy Chess, Observer, Karessah, Rabbit, Wizard and Tokyo.

Added to this exciting line up are guest performers, 2010 Road March King Sye, De Bobb, young and sexy Tasha-P and the legendary Super L. All the Calypsonians will be backed up by Swinging Stars Band the #1 Calypso Band in the Caribbean.

The event is an annual cultural feature which the Diaspora look forward to. It provides the avenue and opportunity for Caribbean nationals to experience an appetizing menu of current and ‘ole school’ vintage calypso.

A patriotic Anna-Maria Clarke who is the CEO of E-Dominica Promotions insists that the main goal of the endeavour is “to showcase Dominica’s musical talent to the Diaspora in an effort to get people to come visit Dominica during our carnival and other festivities…  It is used as a musical vehicle to help drive persons to Dominica…”  She is looking forward to the support of all Caribbean island people. Come with your flag and represent your country.

E-Dominica Promotions recognizes that the event could not have been what it is without the invaluable partnership of the corporate community. This year The Government of Dominica, Western Union, LIME (formerly Cable & Wireless), Nature Isle Gourmet, Paul’s Worldwide Shipping, Tes Auto, Liberty Tax, Cholo Bakery, Conrads Bakery, JX rentals, Eves Photo Inc., and Japs Auto have joined with the promoters to make the show a reality.

The King of Kings Calypso Extravaganza is a production of E-Dominica Promotions. Starting time is 10:00, Saturday 21 August, 2010. Ticket prices are $35 in advance, $50 VIP. Tickets can be purchased online at www.edominicapromotions.com.  Information hotline is 917 327 9972.

@Honeyman: Dude what are you talking about? This show has been taking place every year for almost twenty years now.

And I don’t know what you people think when you write such garbage on here. I know you believe you might be witing something positive when you say “…hope is our people will leave their mal–ka -sa` at home…” But in fact that is negative. A non Dominican reading that would not be wrong in infering that we Dominicans are badly behaved. Come on we need to get that chip off our shoulders.

Sorry not trying to come off as “unpatriotic” but this show is tired. Not necessarily the performers, but the show has become kind of predictable. If you are a first timer or just visiting for the summer, you will probably enjoy it. But if you’ve been to the show the last couple years you find it becomes blasé.

But due to the fact that Dominican events are few and far between in NYC, people will still attend if not for the social interaction.

Thats an endevor every Dominican and none Dominican should appauled and support fully we should have more such events all over North America{ it takes money to do that i agree} i would like to big up the organizes and hope such events will continue for a long time. The price is reasonable we have some of the best talent in the business and the number one band the swinging stars. My only hope is our people will leave their mal–ka -sa` at home and be advised this is not D/Ca the NEWYork POlice has a zero tolarent for drinking in public and will not tolerate disrespect for law and order.
