DOWASCO piplines destroyed in Layou disaster; residents urged to boil drinking water

Ettinoffe

An ecological disaster which occurred in Layou yesterday has caused severe damage to DOWASCO’s water intake there.

General Manager of DOWASCO Bernard Ettinoffe says the company is still waiting to conduct an assessment but several pipelines have been destroyed.

“We are still waiting to do a proper assessment of damages done to the water intake which serves about nine person in the Layou Valley area. We also have a number of persons who are being served from our Springfield intake in Layou,” he said.

Meantime residents of Layou have been cautioned to boil all drinking water as the water could have been contaminated by the heavy flooding.

Sometimes i want to think that black people allow religion to keep them in abject ignorance. and thus make all of us stupid. Natural disasters occur all over the world on a daily basis. As you have seen, recovery from such is when everyone pitches in and work together. Religion is like politics; you must first suffer in this life so you can enjoy a life that we have no clues about. For example, the majority of poor countries are catholic in faith. Everything goes to the pope who lives like a king in the vatican. When there is a natural disaster, you don’t hear of any billions in aid going to to those poor victims who chose the pope over their own families when giving to the church.
Religion has taught us the Jews are god’s chosen people even if they crucified Jesus. This means that we blacks are second best even if the same bible tells us that we were made in his image and likeness. It is time that we Black people get out of this religious slavery and develop ourselves.

God is good but you have to help yourself too.
it would be like going to the river to wash clothes – wetting the clothes putting the soap there and saying God is good and when you come back the clothes is still wet the soap the same place. would you say that he is not good? Help yourself.

To “truth”, “love” and whatever, where in humanist paragragh he stated that he doesn’t beleive in God. Basic 101 comprehension. Take the time to read before people like you come here and type stupidity thus prevent people like me from coming here to read something substantial. There’s no Truth neither there’s Love in you, hence my parethesis, or else you would not have responded with such idiocy…Remember, God help those who help themselves, which was the basis of humanist point.

      @ Curious

You also have a different comprehension. Read carefully. I am not the one writing stupidity, you and Humanist do.  What is your problem?
Be respectful of others. No two minds think alike. As I always say, accord others their due rights and dignity to comment/respond. There is no need to insult them.
You do not know me. Therefore, you are out-of-place. Know your place. Judge yourself. Examine your conscience and see where you stand before God.
The words of Our Lord Jesus Christ as contained in Holy Scriptures: “Judge not that you may not be judged accordingly and two-fold”, you miserable person.
The name Humanist alone will inform you that the person is not a God-lover, he is an agnostic, an atheist whichever who speaks and teaches against God. God is not even amused.
He advised users/readers to this Website not to pray to God. Did you not read his writing properly? The fact that he says that, warrants a response and “TO SPEAK UP AND OUT/WRITE AND CORRECT HIM.” This is a Christian obligation.
As the world progresses, some people have become more godless and formed their own opinion with the type of mentality they possess. This is also projected in their words/comments and responses.
As the saying: “What comes out of a person’s mouth tells a lot about them, who and what they are.” This includes you.  Mind your words to other readers/users on this Website. You are not their boss, family or friend. You do not have the authority to insult them, you dictator or are you a communist.
In their ignorance they do not know that they are wrong. Whether the person chooses not to believe it is his/her affair and an eternal one. The person has no right to inform others that they should not pray to God. Too often some of you on this Website do not apply psychology. You do not respond respectfully and amicably. You are the one who is a hater and probably a God-hater. God knows who and what you are.
God has taken note of this person for his/her punishment and probably banishment from Him forever.
We choose the path which we wish to follow through to eternity.
Pray to God to grant you the grace of love, peace and respect for others and to accord them their due rights and dignity.

Here is the great African-American scientist Neil deGrasse Tyson saying, again, what I have said many times before, Truth, Love, etc. Please watch the video and listen to what he says. Surely there is sense in that. If you cannot see any sense in what he says, well, try again. It is no indoctrination: it is fairness.

Furthermore: what is with the smug arrogance, seriously? All those grinning emoticons, as if you know everything there is to know. I can only assume you believe yourself to be omnipotent, as you characterize Anonymous in a series of ways that are absurd based on nothing more than a post criticizing your tirade against me. You truly must believe yourself to be a deity’s messenger person, since you go so far as to claim Anonymous is likely destined for hellfire–for doing nothing more than asking why you posted what you did. You even attempt to make a joke by calling him a communist or dictator–but calling Anonymous that without having any clue who the person is cannot really be a joke and is in terribly poor taste; it does not even remotely fit what he asked. It is you, in fact, who enjoy being a dictator, as your opinion appears to be “I AM RIGHT OR YOU BURN IN HELL, HAHA, TOO BAD.” After reading over your posts again, I am sorry to come to such a crude conclusion, but I really don’t know what else to say, other than that I sincerely hope you are not truly so arrogant as to not be able to examine what I have posted from as objective and non-aggressive a viewpoint as possible. I enjoy debating, but childish arguments I will have no part of, and you are clearly capable of at least writing more or less grammatically correct sentences, so I hope you will not descend into such arguments.

As for my name: for your information, “humanist” does not imply anything about religious stance. The first humanists, in fact, were deeply religious. What you are thinking of is secular humanism. My name was chosen intentionally, yes, but do not jump to conclusions from my username alone before more closely examining what humanism is.

@ Anonymous. Did you actually said ” Pray can go so far”? Did you you actually made that comment, for that matter? Do you know that PRAYER goes ALL THE WAY? Not just “so far”. What we may not be able to accomplish with our physical strength, we can accomplish it with prayers. Didn’t you know this? Anyway blessings on you.

Prove it. Where is the evidence for your assertions? Until you have proof, don’t rely on that for help. Do the work yourself and with others.

        @ Sad Sad:

Anonymous and Humanist are God-haters. They hate the very One who created them. This is the One whom both of them will stand before for their last judgment. In fact, even while they live, they will experience the wrath of God and his fair and just punishment/recompense as they deserve. God knows what they said and has taken note of it.
I would like to inform Humanist, TO PROVE THAT THERE IS NO GOD.
As it is stated in Holy Scriptures: “Fools say in their heart there is no God.”
They will find out and soon enough that God exists, that He is the Creator of the world and is the Ruler of the world. Governs the world and He will judge everyone according to their words and deeds.
St. Paul said to inform them that “they stand condemned” by their very words. He also said “Call them heretics and reject them!
St. Paul also said, “…Now, we are walking by faith; not by sight and one day we will be walking by sight.”
IT ALL IN THE HOLY BIBLE!
It is too bad for those who denounce God and His existent and who teach others to do likewise and not to pray to Him. I feel sorry for them.
It is better to believe than not to believe. We thank and praise God that we are believers. He has chosen us. We are His chosen people, the sheep of His pasture.

@Truth etc. – I am a god-“hater?” (I won’t even question your lumping Anonymous in there, since you have no idea who he or she is.) Wow. All right. Good job. I take the time to write a civil reply to you below, explaining my position in brief, and this is what you return with. Nonetheless, I maintain my assertion below: I am not here to be your enemy. I will gladly engage in debates, but name-calling and savage attacks are another, and it is clear who is trying to do what so far.

Anyway, you say to prove to you that there is no god. Now, first off, I have never written, in any comment on DNO, that there is no god, so this is your first error. What I have written, time and time again, is that there is more or less no scientific evidence for a deity as described in a holy book. How can you tell me this is a hateful statement? It is an objective factual statement. Are you against learning about what science has to say? Are you of the same mind as those who persecuted Galileo because he dared to defy the church’s view that the sun went around the earth and that the moon was a perfectly unblemished surface? Why are you so angry?

Secondly, you cannot prove there is no deity. However, you cannot prove there IS one. Therefore, this is a meaningless line of argument. In fact, the impetus is on you to prove that your highly specific deity exists, since you are so adamant and confident in your specific views. Surely you understand this.

In all my comments, I try to be fair and honest, though I do not often lash out at anyone. In fact, it is you who, as I said before, need to learn to be a calmer, more rational, gentler poster in times like these, as you have not only made absurd claims but repeatedly ignored what I have said and responded in a severe, venomous manner. I do nothing of the sort.

Before you attack me again, please go do some research. Read books by and watch videos of Carl Sagan, Richard Dawkins, Stephen Hawking, Christopher Hitchens. Read histories of science. Learn about the ancient Greeks, Copernicus, Galileo, Newton, Lyell, Darwin, Hubble. Learn about the universe. Read more than religious books. Try to understand your opponent’s viewpoint. At worst, you will at least have a better way of debating me, since this is going nowhere as is, with you just quoting verses and making absolutist statements as if you know all there is to know.

Despite your venom, I wish you well and hope you will do some more research than you appear to have.

We pray everyday, even when things go wrong we still pray to God and thank him for his grace. 90% of Dominicans love and Believe in God, we are NOT the only country going through this kind of natural disasters.

Smile Dominica, because God loves you come what may!!!

Sad times, indeed. Let’s hope the people of Layou and those who need to use that area will get through these times of hardship by their efforts, our efforts to help them, the government’s efforts, and luck (i.e., no further natural disasters, although we have a tropical storm coming next week).

We must do the work ourselves. Do not rely on prayers, on the supernatural. If you believe in such things, fine–pray, believe. But do not let those prevent you from helping others and yourself. Whatever the truth is about where we came from and why, at the end of the day, we must help ourselves and others by our own hands. Do not sit down and wait for magic–make the thing happen.

      Humanist:

You act as if you created yourself. I feel sorry for you.
Do not depend on God and prayers? Fools say in their heart there is no God.
Our Lord Jesus Christ said: “By your words you will be acquitted and by your words you will be condemned.”
You are spiritually sick. What garbage are you talking about? Your statement came straight from the jaws of Hell, Satan and his eternal cauldron of everlasting fire. Oh! how Satan loves you but not because he sincerely loves you but because you speak and teach against God. Satan has lost Heaven forever and he is trying to take down gullible and vulnerable people as you.
Were you ever a Catholic Christian for that matter? What happened to you?
As it is stated in Holy Scriptures, “Who prevented you from following the truth? A little yeast leavens the bread.”
I feel sorry for you if you continue in this manner. When you die you will deeply regret it to your eternal detriment where there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Those who deny God are presently there. I would not wish this on anyone. It is suffering forever and ever. Satan will consistently taunt all of you for your faithlessness.
It saddens me to visualize where you may end up forever and ever. Who laughs last laughs best.

@ Truth, Love, etc. – You call me sick, and yet you are the one spewing venom at me. I did not once attack anyone, by contrast–I in fact did the opposite, saying that people can pray and believe if they want to. As I have maintained, no one knows the answer to life’s questions for certain, though the evidence is not with religion.

As for how I was created–what kind of question is that? How is any baby born? If you seriously believe babies are not born by males impregnating females, good for you, but do not try to force this unscientific belief onto me or anyone else.

I was raised Catholic. However, I learnt from when I was young about the universe–its enormous size, its enormous age, etc. I then reasoned, without having read any philosophy or hard science then, that the biblical view, with a humanlike deity caring about the everyday affairs of people, seemed a bit absurd in such a vast universe of which we are so tiny as to hardly exist. But I did not stop praying until years later, when I had learnt much more and gone through years of endless questioning. No one has turned me into anything, I have not been attacked by an obeah man, I have not fallen on my head, I have not taken any drugs, none of the sort–I have done nothing but learn and question at every chance I have.

The fact is that you cannot prove that anything you believe is true. Quoting verses does not make something true. If it did, why is the Quran false to you and not the bible? Why not the Talmud? Why not the verses of Leucretius? The great Hindu holy books? What makes you so certain?

You believe and you hope. I do not condemn you for this. It is you who condemn me for doing no more than presenting scientific facts. What, do you also believe in the suppression of knowledge? The retardation of human progress? How could we even have this dialogue if not through the wonders of science?

I said that people must get off their rear ends and help each other out, not sit back and clasp hands and hope everything will magically work out. If you disagree, then I really don’t know what to say.

I am not your enemy now and will not be your enemy. If we cannot coexist in the sense that we acknowledge the way things are and that we do not know the truth for certain, then it is you, not me, who have things to work out.
