Village Councils are being called upon to lead the process in getting their communities ready for the 2011 hurricane season.
The season which has been predicated to be very active stretches from June to November.
The Roosevelt Skerrit cabinet has been holding meetings around the island to mobilize village councils for the upcoming season.
The first such meeting was held in Veille Case this week.
“I want to put it back to the individuals and villages to be responsible for preparing for the hurricane season because by the time the government comes from Roseau, the rain would have had already washed away your homes,” Skerrit said.
He said failure by government and a country to prepare for a natural disaster could cost the states millions of dollars.
skerrit should go and equip the hospitals, health centres and shelters; we already know to prepare for hurricane season.
