Landslides, heavy rainfall affect garbage collection in Dominica

Garbage collection will take place as planned in Roseau but will be suspended elsewhere today, the Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation is reporting.

Certain communities have been declared impassable because of landslides brought on by heavy rainfall.

“Our employees themselves are from some of these areas and they are unable to come to work at this time and those who are in the area, are operating on the schedules in the city for today,” said Landfill manager Marcus Francis.

An announcement will be made later as to when operations outside of the city will resume.

Dominicans are being asked to keep their garbage secure until then.

Sometimes we tend to wait for something worst to happen before we act on it. Like this time we wait for the heavy rainfall then landslide after to act on our garbage.

Each one of us should practice proper waste disposal and management so as to stop our problem in garbage.
