Portsmouth City Council embarks on clean up campaign

White goods or discarded household appliances

The Portsmouth Town Council in collaboration with the Dominica Solid Waste Corporation has embarked upon a drive to rid the town of Portsmouth of white goods and derelict vehicles.

In this regard the Portsmouth Town Council invites persons who have white goods to be disposed off and derelict vehicles in their environs to register these goods for disposal at our office.

Encourage persons to declare as much as possible all these items so that we may effect a real clean up of the community. Encourage your neighbors to declare / register white goods with the council so that we may have them removed.

We thank the private truckers who have come on board with the council to implement this project and solicit the assistance of other truckers within the community towards this effort.

Portsmouth is ours to build. Lets all play our part!!

If you own or know of a derelict vehicle and or white goods within the community, please call the Portsmouth Town Council at telephone number 445-5212 or drop by our offices to inform us.

A derelict vehicle is one that is no longer operational due to accident or age.  White goods are discarded household appliances.

Why are derelict vehicles a Problem? Derelict vehicles are unsightly and compromise the natural beauty of our community. Most derelict vehicles contain hazardous materials that are harmful to our environment and serve as homes for rodents and vermin.

I think the last Friday or last Saturday of every month should be junk day for picking all junk from every street in the city. People should place their junk on the road side the day before for collection. The city can also send people remiders of the day junk will be picked up. Junk day is not to be confused with trask pick up in the city which should be at least everyday or every other day of each week. This plan should ensure a clean and tidy city.
