The UWI Seismic Research Centre (UWI-SRC) has received reports of fluctuating water levels at the Boiling Lake in Dominica, according to a statement on the Centre’s Facebook page which was posted earlier today.
It was also indicated in the post added that investigations are currently underway and an update will be provided shortly.
Dominica News Online (DNO) has learned that some officials from the UWI Seismic Centre are currently on island and a visit to the boiling lake has been scheduled for Monday November 22, 2021. In addition to the officials from Seismic Centre, the party will include staff of the Division of Forestry and National Parks and the ODM .
The ODM and UWI-SRC are the official sources of information on geological hazards in Dominica and the English-speaking Eastern Caribbean.

Let us all hope that nothing is amiss. Dominicans can take no more adversity as covid, inflation, unemployment, starvation wages, victimization and polluted politics are making life on the island nightmarish.
The boiling lake is known to have it’s water level go down and return to normal. It’s not the first time and I don’t think it will be the last. There is no need for alarm. The scientists should try to ascertain why this is occurring and if possible the frequency of the events as well as the early forewarning signs. They should reach for assistance from some of the best brains in the field to figure it out. The concern for me is how will this affect the geothermal energy initiative if and when it comes to fruition. The more we know the better.
Fluctuating water levels – why is that something to be reported? Nothing in this article explains why this should be a concern. Is this an indication of a pending eruption?
This is just a random report that has no value to anyone who is not educated on the specifics of volcanic activity. Come on DNO, show some courtesy to your readers and explain the relevance of this article.
You are so right, the first time I read this story, I asked my self what are they trying to say.
To Admin: When you report a story like this, call the people or the experts and have them give you specifics. I am sure there is a reason for testing the fluctuating levels, what happens if it is low and what happens when it is high.
While this may be a cause for concern. Everything will be okay. The geothermal project should continue and the people of the Roseau Valley, and rest of the south of Dominica should have no fear, live your lives normal, just be vigilant. In fact Dominicans should have no fear. Dominica has 9 volcanic centers, where do we have to run to? The Boiling Lake is purging… Yeah man. It has happened before and it will happen again and again and again and then… Boom.
