World Bank commits $5M to Dominica

World Bank

The World Bank has made a commitment give Dominica $5 million to help reduce the effect of climate change.

Dominica is among six Caribbean countries which have been selected to participate in a pilot programme which will investigate the vulnerability of small island developing states, with a view towards implementing strategies to reduce its effect.

Head of the Environmental Coordinating Unit Lloyd Pascal said the initiative is very important.

“This is very important that we are starting the New Year with this. We have already been selected as one of the six Caribbean countries. The Caribbean region is a pilot so the World Bank together with other funding agencies has selected six other countries. This is something that hasn’t been done before,” he said.

fUNNY TODAY I WAS THINKING HOW WE COULD LEAD THE CARIBBEAN THIS WAY!! We could in some way get solar panels on most houses around the city and outer city villages. See how well that works. We could lead the Caribbean in clean safer and more effective power. We already coming up with Volcanic Power Solar and win wold be kool. We should deff try it out. Have some participators to try it out. I know alot of ppl will try it since they pay big bills for Domlec and are Fedup. Also we could build panels on the coastal lines and convert the sea waves into electricity. I have seen some places trying this version. We could totally Dominate this and we could boast how the Nature Isle uses Natural clean and environment safe energy!! Just think how much investment. Also brainstorm new ideas so we could get inverters interested in our ideas. Come on guys and Good luck.

get washway, gabo and dr. bevin ettienne to put their brains behind renewable energy sector in dominica.. to reduce carbon emmissions you have to go green, alternative energy source..
get domlec to reduce emmissions by placing laws in our constitution so that a percentage of energy generated by wind, geothermal, hydro, solar should be of a higher percentage than diesel(fossil fuel)..
encourage dominicans by way of grants, loans, education, technical training to install such devices in their home….
ALL THAT IS WISHFULL THINKING, AS LONG AS THERE IS DIESEL AND PETROL… THERE IS MONEY TO BE MADE, FROM THE PRODUCERS OF PETROLUEM PRODUCTS TO GOVERNMENT CORRUPT LEADERS WHO WILL BEND THE RULES WITH THESE PEOPLE TO LINE THEIR POCKETS…. FOR EXAMPLE THE KICK BACK MONEY FROM THE GEOTHERMAL CONTRACT. THE PETROCARIBE FIASCO(COMPANIES WITHIN COMPANIES, ASK REGGIE)

THEM MAN WILL FIND AWAY TO PINCH IN THAT 5 MILLION, LES BAN VOILER

Climate change will affect us all, we must do what we can to reduce its impact.

Use it wisely. Let the people know what the money will be used for, and let the people (and the WB) see the the results.

If this is a loan or Dominica has to pay back in any way then they should turn it down. The IMF and the world bank are set to keep rich countries rich and keep poor countries poor.

I wouldn’t feel so honored if I were you.
Number one, there is no global warming (just look at the temperatures worldwide right now).
I would respectfully decline their money and offer if I were Dominica.
The less you have to do with the World Bank and U.N. the better off you are.
They have their own interests at heart, not yours.
