The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a fetus in a concrete drain in Gutter Village about 8:30 am on July 9, 2013.
The fetus was transported to the Princess Margaret Hospital where it was examined by a medical practitioner who confirmed that it was male and consistent with a 20 weeks old fetus, according to police PRO, Inspector John Carbon.
The police are soliciting the assistance of the general public in finding the perpetrators.
Anyone with information is asked to call the police HINT LINE at 1-800-4468 or CRIME STOPPERS at 1-800-8477.
I have a problem when people call a child in the womb a “fetus”.
Now I know this a scientific term so people will probably say I am an uneducated fanatic.
Uneducated? No! A fanatic? For Christ? Yes!
Let me ask you a question. When you say it is a fetus are you implying that it is something less than a human being?
Those who take a “pro-abortion” position (I won’t dignify them by calling them “pro-choice”) have a problem calling the unborn a “chid” or a “baby” (they don’t want to kill a baby) so they are forced to use the word “fetus”.
When Mary, the virgin mother of our Lord, was pregnant, she went into the hill country to visit her cousin Elizabeth who was also pregnant with John the Baptist. When she greeted her Elizabeth said:
“Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. And whence is this that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the BABE leaped in my womb for joy.” (Luke 1:42-44)
Here the unborn is called a “babe” (baby) by Elizabeth who was “filled with the Holy Ghost” according to verse 41. This unborn baby was aware of his surroundings – aware of the presence of the blessed virgin – and the significance of the words she spoke! Not only that but he responded appropriately! God be praised!

The response to this news item shows it has touched many hearts. Unfortunately, such things also happen in my own country (Canada). It is part of the human condition.
Dominica has a culture of life. You have many loving and caring people in your country who know the value of unborn human beings who already bear the image of God.
The public at this time does not know the circumstances of either the conception or the death of this little one. Nobody has a right to say the mother “killed” her unborn child because at this point in time we simply do not know what happened.
We know she did wrong to leave the fetus there and I admit this does suggest the worst. But unless you have been in those circumstances you cannot know the emotional dynamics that can cause a person to do almost anything at such a time. Try to understand the feelings of loneliness, guilt, and fear that can grip a woman who is already suffering from poverty. Was this her case? We don’t know.
I am a pro-life evangelical Christian who has written (and had published) articles against abortion. I have picketed outside abortion “clinics” in both Canada and the USA. But I believe – wrong though abortion is – the woman is often also a victim.
If the woman is found I can only pray and hope the authorities will be kind and show mercy; that they will be redemptive; that whatever medical care and counseling is needed will be provided.
If the woman is reading this I want you to know that truly GOOD people are not against you. Your priority should be to talk to a doctor somewhere (maybe at a hospital) because you may need medical attention. After this I encourage you to report to the police. They have a responsibility and they will appreciate your helping to set the record straight. Please go to them before they come to you. This WILL make a difference.

Killing a baby is wrong but its a shame that if she had done it by a doctor no one will saying all those things. How hypocritical, one can kill a child and it is ok as long as a doctor is doing it. I hope you read this. You could probably tell us why at age 27 you are not able to conceive. Most women can conceive with no problem.
There are some reasons why people are not able to conceive. One of it is using internal, various contraceptives.
Then there are some married couples who wait to have children. They work, save money to also purchase a house, amassing wealth and material possession. A few years go by as they get ready to have a baby and planning it. In the interim they utilize contraceptives. When they are good and ready to have the baby and for the woman to conceive, she is not able to conceive. I view this as a punishment. They chose wealth and material possession over having a baby or more. This is the type of world we live in today.
Dominica has Planned Parenthood. This is an organization whose origin is in the US. They assist women with contraceptives (probably men too) and to curtail having babies to the point of abortion. It is a pro-choice organization; not a Christian one. Figure it out.
People will lambast the woman for what she did. I am not stating that what she did was correct. They, themselves, use certain means to avoid conceiving. This too is the work of the devil.
If you cannot conceive, you can adopt. There are many children who need someone to love them and to give them a good home. You will be doing a child or two a godly favor. As the saying, “We cannot turn back the hands of time but we can wind it up again.”
Our problem in Dominica is that we are too judgemental. From the comments yesterday one would have sworn this was a full term baby who one had simply abandoned. Reading the full story I can understand the panic and fear of giving birth to a fetus which can not survive. The person is probably still going through the trauma of the situation. Give them time to come out and explain. It could be a teenager who was not aware or still in denial that she could have been pregnant. We just don’t know and when we don’t know we need to shut up!
All these people who’ve condemned the individual to hell where do you stand with God. Are this individual’s sins greater than yours. Judge not!

Mistake, out of panic….
As a mother I am mortified to hear of a fetus in any place other than the arms of its mother or safety zone. Children do require alot of understanding, care and knowledge to raise them. However, to the young lady who ever you are please find peace. Seek counseling. You alone know the circumstances you were faced with. I know in the present society everyone tends to judge another until its at their doorstep (it is human nature to do so). However, you have to see past this and try and understand for yourself what has happened and how you can overcome it. In the darkest hours God is by our side always.We just have to call his name (a mantra I believe in), even if I have to go through the trial of life… I know he is there. So too he is there with you. Just call on him he will come to you.
Find a person of authority by yourself and quietly (no crowd with you) and get the help you deserve.

What was the female age? Was her general cuircumstances a threat to her mentality? Did she feel like she had no choice? What are the issues surrounding this? Anyone remembers the CHS student from the River Street area who delivered a healthy, full term baby boy, proceeded to strangle the baby and place him in latrine? Then hop right on up to CHS as if it was nothing was wrong. This was all over DBS a few years ago. She was arrested the same day, I’m unsure what happened with the case.
The law is not tough enough so they keep throwing the to be babies like trash eg. the young lady who threw her child in the pit no serious consequences, praise God this one survived and is about six now, there are different ways to cry out for help and seriously i don’t think this should be one of them..heartless and selfish women i am making no excuses for them.

20 weeks. Seems like a miscarry to me. Seems like someone who was confused and scared too. Possibly a young child carrying a baby and scared of what parents and the public would think. Dominica is like that, very judgemental. I hope the mother is safe and her life is not at risk. We could lose two lives instead of one here, if she had complications, which is very likely. Considering this is a 20 week old baby. I hope she get medical attention because I am sure she needs it.
On the flip side, if the person is an adult or a child getting help from an adult, then that is just wrong.

I have read the majority of comments and I cannot believe that some people do not understand that a fetus/foetus was found and NOT a new born baby. A fetus/foetus is a developed embryo (in the womb or egg).
All we know the mother could have had a miscarriage, and being scared, panicky, left the fetus/foetus there. She needs medical help.

I am not in here, to defend that mother of that “Fetus” or developing child of the womb–and that’s what it is at weeks old in the mother’s womb! A Fetus!
This means that the human body was still in formation–not yet completely formed in the womb. We read that doctors had to carefully examine it, so to determine the gender of that fetus.
But as I skimmed through those post below, it makes me wonder if those who commented really understand that situation or the details of that of the News Article; or is it because their minds are very young and speaking their thoughts without wisdom and understanding.
First of all it is said that the “fetus” was in consistence, or matched with one, who would be 20 weeks old.
This would mean that he (the Fetus) was in his mother’s womb for about 20 weeks–in other words she would have been 4 months pregnant–when whatever it was happened.
Some people have commented as if they believe the “Fetus” was a 20 weeks old baby, after its normal birth–but that is not so. People around that mother would have noticed her and her baby–who would be 4 months or 20 weeks old–even if those people were few in number.
No one knows what happened–the reason the fetus was found in its condition. But what happened could be only one of two things:
(1) That mother went into labor pains which would be a sign of miscarriage, since she was only 4 months pregnant. It could probably be that she was alone and did not even know what was happening to her, and did not think of calling for help.
And so the result could have been a miscarriage. Still the question remains answered, which is: Why would she hide that happening from her friends and family? We do not know!
(2) The mother might have decided to abbot her unborn child–it could have been that she only realized that she was pregnant when she was already 4 months–perhaps she was not in the position to have a child.
But could she perform that act abortion on her own? And if she did not do it on her own, someone or some people would have assisted her.
But a woman cannot simply force out a baby, that is growing in her womb, before its time. The normal time is at 9 months or some babies are ready to enter this world after 7 months in their mothers womb.
Whatever happened with that fetus and his mother, only God knows and most certainly, the mother herself. I just wish she would come out and tell us her story–if she would like to continue her days in this world with a clear conscience. In Jesus Christ, there is forgiveness.
Yes indeed, Jesus came to die, that through His death on the cross, we will have forgiveness and to be able to stand before our Holy God, with the “freedom” of our mind.

Yes! Faith, Trust, Humility, and Obedience is what we need. Holy Spirit who connects to us from conscience, He does the guiding, the protecting, the training, the disciplining or teaching–all that we need to grow and prosper in the Life of Love, which is of God, for God is Love, in Spirit, Truth, and Righteousness.

Why are people naive about that statement? We know the gestation period for a human being is 38 – 40 weeks, and the story clearly states that the fetus was only 20 weeks in maturity. This is NOT a cry for help. This was NOT a miscarriage. The baby was NOT delivered too early. I do not think that baby was delivered at all. Of course, people on a whole are quick to judge, but what are the facts, in your opinion? All people know is that A FETUS WAS FOUND IN A CONCRETE DRAIN. No, no one knows the reason in this situation.
It is impossible to be 20 weeks pregnant and not know it; however, it is possible to get into early labor and not in a position to contact anyone for assistance immediately, but to deliver a fetus in a drain and walk away, is beyond comprehension. GO FIGURE.

If this was clearly a genuine miscarriage, how did it find its way in the river. When things like this happen, a person would find their way to the nearest hospital. How comes no one is reporting that a person who was pregnant is no longer pregnant etc etc etc. This was a malicious and cruel act to a baby. While many are trying to have a single baby, others are willfully killing them.
wait a minute… she could have had a miscarriage or gone into very early labor… if it was a young girl maybe she didn’t know what to do.. it is possible she didn’t even know she was pregnant. if she didn’t have the means to keep herself healthy during a pregnancy the baby could have died inside her and she could have gone into labor… We do not know her story… don’t call this murder.

This fetus is only 20 weeks. It would not be able to survive. It would have to be at least 24 weeks and have special incubation equipment to survive. DA doesn’t have that. Don’t know if it was aborted by some means or miscarried.
Agreed, a 20 weeks fetus may not have survived without adequate incubation. Dominica may not have that type of sophisticated equipment, but dead or alive the mother left the fetus in the drain. This lives people to wonder, do you not agree?

She could have informed someone in the medical profession about her dilemma and received help to cope.
Think! She was pregnant. She may have been raped; forced to give in to a man’s desperate sexual urge and passion. She probably did not want her family and friends to know about her situation. She may have told the man about her pregnancy and he may have instructed her or forced her to get rid of the baby and even denied that the baby is his. She tried to hide her shame of being pregnant. There are many reasons why she committed this act. It is not as if you are not aware of those reasons, if only you would put on your thinking cap but that you blocked your mind.
I hope for her own peace of mind that she turns herself in to the police. She may need emotional and financial help. There will be some people as also her lawyer who will provide whatever support she is in need of.
Last but not least, think of Our Lord Jesus Christ who said to the Sinner of Magdala, “Go and sin no more.” And to the men, married do all who wanted to stone her, “Let he who is without sin caste the first stone.”

You did not comprehend what I stated. Read and digest the writing. I did not compare what she did to using contraceptives. However, using contraceptives is preventing a baby from being born. It is disappointing that contraceptives are accepted as being normal. However, it is suppressing life. You can use it daily and no one knows. Some of you are too two-faced and one-sided.
Do you think that God, who is the Giver of Life will exult those who use contraceptives? Those who devised contraceptives and sell it will have a dear price to pay before God.

I doubt you want somebody else’s baby…if you wanted to be “given” a baby, you would have had one already. The baby ward always have mothers that are willing to give up their babies for adoption. Have you checked the Stronach ward?
she lucky the placenta came out, she better pray none is left in to give her infection and decrease her chances of making more. there is faamily planning methods to prevent such, but if you carried a baby so far just continue and leave him for adoption.
Only God knows why she did this ? She needs some serious psychiatrical and medical help cause in such a case antibiotics would be required . She needs to acknowlege and admit to wrong doing and seek medical aid immediately .

We are so quick to cast judgment on people whenever something happens. This is truly a heinous offense and the person responsible must be punished. But take heed people – many of our young people are suffering in secret. They have no-one to defend them against those big-men in society who abuse them and then leave them to suffer the consequences. Many do not know what to do in those circumstances and its only when they react they are noticed. So instead of casting judgement on a village or someone you do not know, seek out and help protect our young girls from those “rats” in our society.

It is sad to know in the US it costs approximately $50,000 for invitro fertilization yet some people take so lightly an act that comes to them as easy as drinking a glass of water. On the other hand poverty and other dire social issues can lead to some drastic decisions. However life should be respected and to carry this being to the point of delivering it and then not even disposing of it in a humane manner is so heart wrenching. Every mommy knows the incredible feeling of that first kick or seeing that tiny being that was created inside her. Words cannot describe the emotions she feels. It is a horrid incident that has occurred and I do not condone such action but this is not the first nor the last time these types of crimes happen.We speak out now that there was physical evidence of someone destroying an unborn child.What about when the doctors do it all the time and make thousands of dollars out of it?
While we can say; despite the situation that doesn’t give the woman a right to throw the fetus into the gutter, she is not all to blame.
There are many factors that could contribute to this action, for example:the woman could have delivered prematurely,saw this lifeless fetus,got afraid and didnt know what to do and out of fear threw it out. or she could have been threatened or beaten causing an abortion and her accuser took the action to get rid of the lifeless fetus.the fetus looked like a five months pregnancy,its eyes and nose were not fully developed as yet so its possible that who ever did this got scared and reacted in this manner.However,if she is not careful she can get serious infection from retained products of conception and she will have to be hospitalized so she could be found out at one point.It is not fair when an innocent life is destroyed this way.

Perhaps this child was stillborn, perhaps the mother never even knew she was pregnant, this is known to happen.
