A small electrical fire created some panic among the staff of Harris Paints on Tuesday morning but quick thinking quickly brought it under control
According to one employee of the establishment the fire broke out at about 10:50 in the ceiling of the office.
She believed that the fire was as as a result of some electrical circuits.
“It is a good thing we had an extinguisher so we put it out immediately before it got worst and we called the fire station,” the employee said.
The fire and ambulance service arrived almost immediately on the scene. Technicians from DOMLEC also arrived promptly.
No one was injured and no major damage was done to the building however, the police, fire officers and other emergency personnel did a thorough check of the building to make sure everything was fine.
This is the second time in very recent history that there has been an electrical fire at harris paints. The previous fire being on 23rd January 2012 in the morning.
The government electrical department should promptly carry out a complete examination of this building so as to ensure safety of the building to the workers, customers, and by extention the adjacent business houses, their workers, and customers, not forgetting the general public and road users of the area.
We must always keep in mind that this area has the potential for major fire which may instantly cuase major loss of life.
