Former prison officer charged with murder, granted bail

Former prison officer Roy Popo who was arrested and charged for the murder of Keith Isles of Morne Prosper has been granted bail in the sum of EC$200,000.00 with his wife and sister as sureties.

Justice Victoria- Charles Clarke issued the order after hearing from Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Evelina Baptiste and Wayne Norde lawyer for Popo.

The Judge then ordered the Learned Magistrate to grant bail to Popo in the sum of two hundred thousand dollars and that he must reside in Massacre. He is to report to the Roseau Police Station every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday between 6am and 7pm and is required to surrender his travel documents to the high court.

He is to live an “industrious life” and also to retrain from interfering with all witnesses in the matter.

Any breach of the order shall result in a “revocation of the bail.” He also has the liberty to apply to the court for a variation of the order if he so pleases.

Man you worked there as an officer and you chose to and spend time there? Did you like what you saw there? Couldn’t you run away from that instead of pulling the trigger, even if is in self defense? Man sometimes it’s better people think we are afraid of them or we stupid to run than to do and spend a day in prison, especially when you worked there. I’m not trying to condemn you but we just need to think things through because there is nothing to beat freedom.

I do agree with you. let them think that you are afraid. Think hard before you act. Also think of your family. This thinking of loved ones have really prevented me to do something outlandish even when I was pushed. May God be with you and use this as a learning experience.
