Former UWP member Joshua Francis and Marigot MP Anthony Charles announce their membership of UPP

Joshua Francis, Anthony Charles

Former member of the United Workers Party (UWP) Attorney Joshua Francis together with Parliamentary Representative for the Marigot Constituency Anthony Charles have confirmed their membership of the newly formed political party, the United Progressive Party (UPP).

They made the announcement while speaking as guests during Q-95 Radio’s ‘Talk on the Block’ program on Tuesday.

The formation of the UPP which was first announced in January this year, has sparked interest among Dominicans at home and abroad. Francis, acting as a spokesperson for the party, stated that a date for the party’s delegates conference, where a leader will be elected, will be announced soon.

Francis clarified his role, stating, “At this stage I cannot say that I am going to be one of the nominees. My interest here is not about leadership.” He gave the assurance that the public will be informed about the nominees for the UPP leadership in due course.

The UPP’s primary objective, according to Francis, is to foster the development of Dominica. He emphasized, “This party is about UPP. And this is not a Joshua Francis show, this is about a team of Dominicans who have decided to come together to take the fore in bringing betterment to the people of Dominica.”

Francis also highlighted the party’s collective efforts to serve all Dominicans, including those residing abroad. When asked about his UWP membership, he confirmed his resignation, stating, “I have officially resigned from the United Workers Party.”

He said he would be willing to put his resignation in writing if required by the executive of the UWP.

Francis, describing himself as an honest man, pledged to continue being transparent with the public. He also invited UWP supporters to consider backing the UPP, noting that the UWP had forfeited its parliamentary chances by refusing to participate in the 2022 general election.

A press release issued by the UPP on Monday, underscored the party’s formation as a response to the urgent need for change in Dominica’s governance. The party, which was officially recognized as a national party by the Chief Election Officer of Dominica on May 8, 2024, aims to revitalize the economy, create growth opportunities, and improve healthcare access which, according to the release, are all areas of development that are in need of “urgent and immediate change.”

The release further stated that the UPP’s recognition “is not just an achievement for UPP but also for the people of Dominica at large as we now seek to develop, build, and grow a strong and caring relationship with every Dominican.”

According to the release, the founding members of the UPP are committed to addressing the challenges facing Dominica and building a prosperous, peaceful, and thriving nation.

The party’s symbol is the “bottle,” and its official color is orange. Its motto is “United for Progress”.

More details about the UPP will be shared at the party’s first press event scheduled for June 10, 2024.

You like politics so much mister Francis, but you took the peoples vote in 2014 for granted. You formed the royal fool with it. No one should vote for you again.
    You don’t deserve it.

Mr. Charles… Why make this move so early and the party is not fully functional.

Why not wait until these guys start mobilizing on the ground, raising capital and garnishing some tangible support from the voters. You have nothing to loose as you are an independent candidate with a seat in the house.

What if UPP does not materialize as a party which you have no control off…….Then you will be a man on an island with no support. If would have better serve you to focus on improving your speaking ability and delivery which is extremely weak rather than embedding yourself with a party in its infantry stage at this time.

    Wish you the Best!!!!!!

As far as I see it the UPP is just another mask of the UWP
any political party that have any UWP past or present members as part of its executive is the same UWP coming in a new BLUE VICTORIA SECRET
so people must ask if is 1 BLUE p**ty they have

There was no electoral reform when UWP was in power between 1995 and 2000.Although UWP had more money than DLP and DFP combined, there was no level playing field. There was no call for campaigning financing. The field was prepared for UWP and they lost. The majority of Dominicans are not interested in electoral reform, and the majority MUST have it’s way.

Joshua’s character is questionable. It doesn’t inspire confidence. This is a man who has a ballooning ego that grave for ultimate power.

This is my prediction for this two member party at present. This party cannot muster a full slate of candidates. They would be blown out like a candle in the wind.

He is just a recycled and rejected ballot. Who in their right frame of mind will consciously decide to be in a team with Joshua Francis? Pure lunacy!

Can somebody please tell me what is Joshua Francis after? Firstly deputy political leader of UWP, then associated with leadership of APP and now mouth piece of UPP. Does that sound as some one desperate for power? Dominicans beaware by their fruits let us come to know them and do the right thing! Reject these political idiots who to them politics mean nothing more than power. Is this not how despots come into being?

Any and every political party is better and more knowledgeable in politics than UWP.After 36 years as a party UWP is yet to command the respect of the majority of the voters. The blue party must understand the majority of Dominicans are NOT interested in electoral reform. The majority of Dominicans do not believe $6.4 billion is missing from any treasury.Between 1995 and 2000 UWP ran this country. They were on stage and incharge, with hundreds of millions of dollars at their disposal,…If according to UWP money was flowing, money was meeting money, everybody had a car, everybody had their own house, everybody was rich, why did the PEOPLE kick out UWP in 2000?24 years and 6 elections later,UWP still remain kicked out.The foolish thing is they, instead of going in the rum shops, the boat house, the ghetto and the ground to campaign they use the media whore to insult people.UWP can never win by being against all social programme

Great move so I am assuming that the young lady from.Salisbury what became of her? What party does she belong to? Her selection for senator is questionable therefore I would want to believe she would choose to have her own party
What party is she representing? is there an independent party registered that she belongs to?

Imagine she would have joined UWP where Salisbury is a stronghold the would have one seatey us assume that she.never does so.she wil be representing now another party in parliament where she geta to pick senators and the Marigot UPP parl rep.gets to pick his senators. Nothing about joining forces
    #Standalone party

I am looking and is throwing my hat in the ring as well for next elections.

The first thing that struck me was ”’the UPP is inviting supporters of the UWP to suuport the UPP”’. REALLY? So why not call on (Labourites to join the UPP? Is UPP already at war with the UWP? Is UPP a branch of the Labour Party? That’s you all FIRST FAILURE!!
Francis had a golden opportunity to serve in 2014, he shamefully/shamelessly blew it up soon after he won over Ambrose George. This guy, Francis, was the worse team player ever in Dominican politics. He can’t even understand when he has been
REJECTED by the people. He blames everyone for his errors, except himself. Man go look in the mirror and you will start to learn something. Man take a chill. This guy is delusional. Both he and the Marigot guy are two spoilers and two losers.
