Police have arrested and taken into custody, four men – one from Grandfond and three from Calibishie – on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
According to Police Inspector Fixton Henderson, on November 17th, 2023, members of the Drug Squad and Task Force of the Dominica Police Force held a vehicle checkpoint in the Woodfordhill area where they intercepted and searched an HRV carrying four men.
According to Henderson, a Taurus 9mm pistol with a magazine, housing five rounds of ammunition, was found in the HRV and seized for further investigation.
The investigation is ongoing
Anytime the police confiscate a loaded gun it’s one fewer instrument of death off the street. I’m happy with that.
However, much more must be done by law enforcement to significantly reverse the proliferation of guns and ammunition entering the country. A strategic crime plan is of absolute necessity. These random finds are good but, let me reiterate, a well thought- out plan must be put in place.
