A heartfelt message for the people of Petite Savanne as their Hon. Parliamentary Representative, Dr Kenneth Darroux presented his Christmas message.

Petite Savanne will be remembered as the community worst hit by Tropical Storm Erika- 30 people lost their lives that morning.

The community which was completely evacuated after the storm was subsequently declared unsafe.

Hon Darroux addressed the nation with mixed emotions.

“What a difference a year makes because just 12 months ago, we were celebrating another convincing and resounding Labour Party victory at the polls …. I sincerely hope that you will join me and look toward the celestial sphere to seek guidance and peace of mind in these trying times.”

Darroux said he is facing the biggest challenge of his political career
Darroux said he is facing the biggest challenge of his political career

Dr Darroux has been the elected Member of Parliament for Petite Savanne since 2009. He describes this challenge as the biggest in his political career having witnessed the sweat and toil of hard working Dominicans wash away in just a matter of hours.

However, he says he is not daunted.

“Call me the eternal optimist but I am of the firm conviction that where there is life, there is hope. I want to reassure you that my spirit is strong, our spirits are strong. Although, at times, the sheer magnitude of this tragedy and the task ahead can make weak flesh weary, we are Dominica strong; we are Petite Savanne strong and we will not be daunted. Because so many depend on us, giving up is not an option.”

His plea to the people of his constituency is to remain strong and to know that neither he, as their parliamentary representative, nor the Labour Party Government will forget them.

“Your Government has not been idle since the storm, already we have seen the commencement of work on a number of houses to accommodate the displaced residents of Dubique and we are hoping to complete this resettlement by the end of the first quarter of next year.

“We have identified a potentially suitable location in Bellevue Chopin to relocate my Petite Savanne compatriots. We are currently in the process of completing all checks and balances…before the final purchase.

“Coincidentally, a long-awaited Caribbean Development Bank/Basic Needs Trust Fund Bellevue Water Supply Project is set to take off which will eradicate the potable water woes that residents have been suffering. It’s timely to accommodate the new settlement.”

He solicited their cooperation and confidence in his abilities as they continue to pray for complete restoration.

Hon Darroux also used the opportunity to thank the many who supported his constituents from day one – from evacuating the communities, to providing food, clothing and shelter to words of comfort and encouragement to those who lost loved ones and property.

“Even as the tears from mourning the loss of many of our loved ones begin to dry up, the recovery and rebuilding process continues and we begin to glimpse the silver lining behind this mammoth dark cloud which hovers above us, I would like to ask you to stay strong, stay together and more importantly stay close to God. He will see us through this tragedy. Petite Savanne will rise again, Dubique will rise again, Dominica will rise again.”

Why all these negative comments? He gave a positive message encouraging his people to stay strong. If there is one quality he has as a good leader is CARING FOR HIS PEOPLE. which is the most important. Mr darroux let me just say to you that this message was well said you could not have said it any better and i am sure that the people of petit savanne hearts will be filled with warmth and comfort when they read or listen this message.

Dr. Darroux, I am a proud product of Bagatelle, and I know you genuinely care about all your people. The people of Petite Savanne were severely impacted and so I understand the special emphasis. I have relatives from Petite Savanne who have been displaced, we are very closely connected, Bagatelle, Petite Savanne, we are one. In 2016, let us put all envy, hate, jealousy and division aside, and just spread love. Dr. Darroux, you have done a remarkable job and so you will be rewarded. I salute you sir!

@Minister Darroux: I feel your pain. I believe your heart is in the right place. Keep hope alive! But where in the world is the Dear Leader anyway and where is his Christmas message? Recall that last time he focused on the Advent. Did he bail out on Christmas to focus on the Epiphany and the promise of the prospective investor he met in Dubai who is coming Dominica in January? Best wishes for a healthy and productive New Year.

Whenever Hon. Darroux speaks you actually feel the compassion this leader has. You can actually feel the sincerity and his empathy is always made manifest. His optimism in the face of deep adversity almost seem to run eternal. He seem loyal and steadfast with his people. These are the virtues of true leaders. A True and good leader is one who can be looked up to, one who can be trusted and one who can explain that which needs to be explained in words that can be easily understood. Lord Montgomery once said “Leadership is the capacity and will to rally men and women to a common purpose and the character which inspires confidence.” This is what Hon. Darroux seem to be doing here. INSPIRING CONFIDENCE!!

I wish you the best and success and don’t ever lose track of those virtues. SUCCESS, Health, Relief, contentment, solved problems and satisfaction TO YOU Hon. Darroux (Doctor) AND THE PEOPLE OF PETITE SAVANNE FOR 2016 IN GODS NAME AMEN !!!

This housing project is very sad. Kenneth Darroux knows that Dominicans like to settle for bread crumbs so he knew that they would have accepted this pitiful housing scheme with open arms. I’m not saying that every family should have received a five star mansion but better can be done and those residents should not have settled for this. Upon thorough inspection, you will notice that these houses look like giant cages where a farmer would store his livestock. These are human beings, not farm animals. I bet that Mr. Kenneth Darroux himself would not have lived in one of those. Upon completion, just imagine if tourist were to come around and take pictures of the area where these houses are being put up; tell me how would that landscape look? It would look like a forgotten cesspool that was languishing by the way side. The fact is that no human being should lower their dignity just because they are in need.

Well since you live in Florida you can get help and build better houses. You claim to live in FL but NW of you in New Orleans, their government never rebuilt them any free houses. To this day there are people who left and never returned. As time goes on who can build better homes for themselves will do so. The government did not cause this storm they got assistance to put people in a place they themselves could not do. Dominicans are the most boldface people you will ever come across, no other government would do as much as this one has done. But you can sit up there in your U.S. and say what comes to mind with no financial help to the plight the people are going through.

First of all I’m not claiming to be in Florida. If you have a disposable email address I can take real time photos of my surroundings and send them to you as proof of my location. Secondly you need to get your facts right. Like kanye west said, President Bush didn’t like black people. Race played a big role as to why New Orleans got overlooked after their disaster. But even when they were overlooked, they still had places to go as long as they were willing to move out of the city. Lastly you make it sound as if it is the Dumb Lazy Party (DLP) that is building these fowl cages for the Petite Savanne residents when in fact those house were financed by someone else; talking crap about “no other government would do as much as this one has done.” Tell me what has the Dumb Lazy Party done in Dominica for the last 16 years? Think about it this way. If the country was better set up, the citizens would have less of a need for relying on the Government for assistance when things go wrong.

You are, well let me stop there. I have no idea who or where you are, but by you having the name Floridian Diaspora one would come to the conclusion that’s where you are for using that name. You could’ve used your name as location but you chose this one, and you want to show me your surroundings, LOL. Better set up? How much more set up you think people need? Did you see the kind of houses these people lost? The only thing most can rely on is insurance. Well my friend if id Kanye you quoting that tells me everything about you. What happened in N.O. had nothing to do with race it had to do with Bush not handling nothing right be it War, the Texas baseball team, and the worst of all the U.S. economy. So when you want to come at me about facts, go find the right people to quote other than Kanye.

You are so blinded by the color red, and the brainwashing, done to you and the majority of Dominicans, even if the whole country was on fire, and you were told to run for your life; head to the middle of the ocean you will be safe there!

Your ignorance, and stupidity would keep you in the center of fire screaming out to Skerrit and his crooks in the labor party to come and save you! Here you are talking fart about someone supposedly in Florida who might well be better off than you as far as living is concern; instead of taking a clue from that person, and demand that Darroux, Skerrit and company get out of the way so that another group can take the country in a different direction to try and create employment, all idiots like you intend to do is to ensure Skerrit wins elections.

Every month, or bi-weekly someone kills themselves in Dominica by committing suicide: have you wondered why? Hint: They prefer to die than live in poverty, hunger and misery under Skerrit and his…

You are so damn stupid, perhaps you never heard of property insurance. Well let me introduce to the fact that almost one (100%) percent of those of us who owns property in the United States, has insurance which covers our property from all perils okay!

So you can watch television in Dominica, and make comparisons to America while Skerrit stave your behind; guy even those who own their house free from a mortgage have insurance, so when something happens, they go to their insurance company who pays for damages, or rebuilding!

If someone does not have insurance, there are government programs through FEMA which gives assistance with money, to help one rebuild if that’s what they wish! People like you need to shut you stupid mouth talking nonsense as if you know.

Right now Missouri, Texas, and other places in the Midwest are under water due to heavy flooding, there are more than three cities completely flattened by tornados, have you heard anybody in America asking Skerrit for…

The reason I did not come to help is because I do not wish to help scum like you!

I want you to feel the pinch in your rotten behind; I want you to feel the poverty in which Skerrit has buried you ignorant head, you will suffer and die from the poverty in which Skerrit has immersed you; I only help those I believe are deserving, I do not help Skerrits, and the labor party supporters.
