Former public servant, businessman, politician, parliamentarian and diplomat Charles Maynard is receiving an official send-off on Tuesday afternoon.
The Dominica Government earlier declared Tuesday a day of mourning for Ambassador Maynard while announcing that it was affording him an official funeral.
The Dominican Flag is being flown at half staff on all public buildings in the State.
Dominica’s ambassador to CARICOM and the OECS, Charles Maynard died on May 8 (2012) at the Princess Margaret Hospital – he had been ill for a number of months.
The Dominica Labour Party government says Ambassador Maynard will be remembered for his significant contribution to Dominica’s political, economic and social development.
He held several ministerial portfolios over a period of more than a decade in the Dominia Freedom Party administration of the late prime minister, Dame Eugenia Charles.
Several overseas dignitaries are expected to attend his funeral service at the St Alphonsus Church in (Goodwill) Roseau on Tuesday afternoon.
THATS TRUE. WE ARE LIKE MORICORIES. A PEOPLE WITHOUT OUR OWN INDIVIDUAL STANCE. ALAS. WHAT A SHAME. REST IN PEACE MR. MAYNATD. YOU ARE A TRUE HERO. LIKE NO OTHER, SLEEP WELL UNTIL WE MEET ON THE OTHER SIDE.
The sadness about all of this is that we waited for him to die before we heaped praise on him or thanked him for his contribution. WE WERE SILENT WHEN HE WAS LAMBASTED BY Q95 TALK HOSTS AND THEIR SUPPORTERS. We are nothing but hypocrites!
Well done Pope. A man with a golden heart. Walked with the Glory of God all over him.Wonderful friend, wonderful man of God, wonderful family personality. Rest perpetually in peace. Peace and love to your wife and children. We will miss you tremendously but God’s will be done.
Great and respectable man. May his soul rest in peace.
May God bless your soul Ambassador Maynard.. Rest In Eternal Peace. I am comforted because you knew your identity in Christ our Lord.I would have given anything to be home today but your inspiration and encouragement to pursue my dreams is keeping me alive and strong. May God continue to comfort your loved ones. Sleep well my friend, until we meet on the other side of the fence.
Onbehalf of the Soufriere Constituency: RIP Mr. Charles Maynard. You have gone to a better place. But you won’t be forgotten for your hard work in the development of Dominica.
IT’S TIME TO START HONORING OUR HEROS.
THIS MAN DID SO MUCH FOR DOMINICA I AM ONLY BEGINNING TO FIND OUT THE EXTENT OF HIS CONTRIBUTION TOWARDS DEVELOPING THIS COUNTRY.
