Charles Maynard

The contribution of one of the region’s sons to the social, political and economic development of an ECCB member country will be showcased with the launching of the book: Charles Maynard: A Life in Public Service, at the ECCB Headquarters in St Kitts and Nevis on 23 February.

The book captures the life and public service of His Excellency Charles Maynard, Ambassador of the Commonwealth of Dominica to CARICOM and the OECS and member of the OECS Economic Union Task Force Committee.

Ambassador Maynard’s tenure in the Public Service of the Commonwealth of Dominica, which spans over 45 years, began in 1963 when he served as Permanent Secretary until 1970.  He also worked as a Cabinet Minister where he held three different ministerial positions during the period 1980 to 1995.

In addition, Ambassador Maynard was a member of the House of Assembly for 20 years. He also served on several local, regional and international organisations including: the Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce, the Caribbean Tourism Organisation, the Caribbean Center for Development Administration and the World Health Organisation.

The book was written by Irving André who has also written the biographies of Dominica’s First Minister, Franklin Baron; First Premier, Edward LeBlanc, and First Surgeon, Dr Desmond McIntyre.

Its In the International media that Cari com countries including DOMINICA have Supported the call for Britain to return Falklands to Argentina. Just Today the 23rd of February 2010 Hugo Chavez Is in the International media Addressing the Queen to give up Falklands to Argentina. I would like to know from the GOVERNMENT OF The COMMONWEALTH O DOMINICA why they are they in support of such actions WHERE AS Dominica is in the same situation with VENEZUELA. The said leader of Venezuela was talking forcefully on why the Queen should give up the Falklands to Argentina. Also Mr. Chavez asking the queen to give up Falklands. When you look the issue at hand Dominica and Venezuela are in the same issue with bird island. I Want to know If the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica can support Argentina in its bid to retain the Falklands . Will the Prime Minister of Dominica take this open opportunity to Ask the President of Venezuela to honorable thing in Return the BIRD Islands To Dominica?????Also I want to know If The Prime Minister is Working in the interest of The Commonwealth of Dominica when he support such actions when Dominica is in the same boat as Argentina. I want to know why Cari com Leaders can do a thing like that to DOMINICA??? Caricom giving a slap to Dominica in OUR FACE.I want to know what is happening. I want to know if it is because we have a Foreigner as the Prime Minister of Dominica?? I want to know what are DOMINICANS view on this Matter.

Kudos to you for your continued contributions to our political landscape.

I hope this literary work becomes a magnum opus that everyone can benefit from…and even though it does not attain such status, I hope we will extract something meaningful from it.

    To Mr. Maynard.
I say thank you!, for your service to Dominica Sir. You contributed to the development of Dominica, You made a difference. I don’t think we need to look to another country to find such a person, you are right here in Dominica. I had the opportunity to listen to the launching of your book over the internet, and I was reassured by the jokes you gave, and how your relationship with the late Michael Douglas endured despite your political affiliation. I think you need to teach our current crop of politicians, a lesson or two, of how your political opponent, is only your opponent in politics, not your enemy.

Hats off to Mr. Charles Maynard! Over 45 years? You are a true symbol of public service representation; an ideal public servant. I appeal to many in the Government service to take example from your work.

Never judge a book by its cover. Plus writing is and art. When skills are integral, anything can be built, even books! See how far the system goes…in black and write.
Don’t think i like reading these type of novels.

Celus, I could not agree with you more. The problem is the lack of intellectual debate and discussions in Dominica and amongst Dominicans! It is easier to subscribe to the debase and lowest common denominator than to rise to excellence. That is why people are trained in excellence – or after years of practice – it does not come naturally instantly! But how long do we need!

Here is a Dominican who has served, achieved and contributed to making us proud to be Dominican – congratulations on a job well done and may the young men of Dominica aspire to be servants of the people as men like Maynard.

Dr. Irving André’s contribution to the “Dominican Literature” must be commended and honoured – this is a great service which he provides on our behalf. The Dominican literature is so much richer as a result of his dedication – his labour of love – to Dominica.

It’s amazing that we get so many comments when something negative happens in dominica, but where are the comments on the service of such a loyal son as Charles Maynard. That silence is deafening and speaks volumes!!!!!!!!!!
