Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to Dominica, Hayden Ovando Pirela, has said that as a result of the country’s current political and economic emergencies, special measures are being taken to ensure the welfare of foreign students in the South American country.

At a press conference on Tuesday, the ambassador, who spoke through an interpreter, stated that universities in Venezuela are attended by students from all over the globe, and that all are being taken care of.

“As a result of the situation in Venezuela, we are taking special measure with all of them… None of the families of the students have been coming here to tell me ‘my son is hungry is Venezuela’,” he said. “We are taking care of all of them.”

Venezuela is currently embroiled in an economic crisis resulting from a plunge in world oil prices. The country, which has the world’s largest oil reserves, has been facing a severe shortage of basic food items and medicine, with some analysts predicting that the country could be facing a crisis consistent with famine.

However, Pirela said that the matter is not as bad as being reported and is being manipulated by the American media, which is “against Venezuela.”

In May, Vincentian students, currently studying in Venezuela, were offered a one-way plane ticket by the government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, for the upcoming summer break. This was done in order to provide some relief, as well as convene a meeting with all students, parents, and authorities on the way forward.

Pirela revealed that those students plan to remain in their home country indefinitely, due to the situation in Venezuela.

“The situation that is happening with the students of St. Vincent, they took their holidays and because as a result of the situation that we are living, they plan to stay there,” he noted.

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, in making the announcement in Parliament earlier today, said that this initiative to sell commodities such as flour, rice and toilet paper to Venezuela, is to be financed by the debt which this country owes for fuel under the PetroCaribe programme.

Dr. Gonsalves said Dr. Jerrol Thompson, Coordinator of Special Projects in the Prime Minister’s Office, discussed the plans with the PetroCaribe’s Sales Marketing Manager, Ramirez Guerrero, during a recent meeting in Venezuela, on the sidelines of PetroCaribe’s 16th Ministerial Council meeting held in Caracas on Friday

    Yea right!

The foreign students are taken care of so well that is why the government of Grenada, is ready to take care of their people in Venezuela.

When are you going to stop lying?

Guy you are nothing more than another puppet liar; haven’t you seen the empathy you are soliciting is futile thus far, Dominicans are not interested in you problem can’t you figure that out? The Dominicans who may sympathize, and empathize you are the corrupted politicians in Dominica, who benefits directly from your past handouts!

Mother goose no longer lay the golden egg, so what’s the point of keeping the old foul when it has out lived it time of prosperity!

Down with Venezuela until the price of oil return to its glory days which will not be anytime soon since every nation is concentrating on going green, and using less fusil fuel,

OK, I know he looks like a some of us but out of a population of more than 30 million Venezuela could not find an ambassador to Dominica who speaks English. They had to put politics first, just like Dominica’s ambassador to Mexico, Brazil, etc. Shame on our poor countries #politicsbeforeprogress 8-O 8-O 8-O

With all your socialist propaganda our sister island Grenada is preparing to bring its students home.
Good luck with your media scam tactics.

I’ve never been in the habit of drinking any tea from politicians and diplomats.
I never expected any open sincerity from you.
Admit your failings honestly and reunite yourself with Venezuelans who do not support your party.

The safety and security of the students of Dominica ultimately is the resposibility of the people of Dominica through the Dominican Government. Safety assurances should come from the Dominican embassador to Veny and the Dominica Government. To date no word. This is yet another show of disrespect to the citizens of Dominica. This guy is drinking the same joy juice from chavez and maduro. I would not rely on him is my child was there.
