With funding provided by the Government of Dominica through the Office of the Prime Minister, the Association of Music Professionals (AMP) in association with Dexia and the Dominica State College, has successfully held its third course music industry course, “The Fundamentals of the Music Business in the 21st Century.”

The course was conducted over an eight-day period from the 12th to the 20th of September 2016 from 5 to 8 Pm. The facilitators of the course were Mc carthy MARIE, well known Caribbean copyright expert, and Adil NADRI from Denmark, a music Business specialist with a graduate degree from the Royal Academy of Music.

In addition to his formal training, Nadri is a respected artist manager with wide experience in the industry and has worked as a tour manager managing tours all over Europe for European and Caribbean artists.

The courses put on by AMP have begun to attract regional attention and this course was attended by 20 Dominicans, one St. Lucian, Christine “Chrycee” Charlemagne and one Vincentian Hayden Billingy who both paid their way to Dominica especially for the course.

Billingy, in particular, was ecstatic in his praise for the course as the knowledge he gained in the first two days allowed him to recover a significant sum from a studio owner and producer that was larger than the sum he expended on the course.

AMP expects that its next activity will allow the participants of its three courses to actually put what they have learnt into practice by writing and recording a number of songs for the production of an album that will then be promoted in targeted markets utilizing the tools and knowledge acquired in the courses on song writing, studio engineering and record production and this latest course on the business of music.

Good works Mr. Marie and his Team..Many notable Dominicans have been producing music for a long time and would have wished to have opportunities like these when they started off.
This new generation of music professionals have to embrace these opportunities and make the best use of the knowledge they gain..
Pursue their passion, Make a living doing it and also make country and people proud!!.

it’s a sort of a kinda warming element but that’s not the way u go…
their must be policy direction in the education syllabus to gain the overall success, not a drop a ting vibe..dominica has suffered too much from lack of aggressive planning long term…

but dominicans are not known to be a set of people who dream big, it’s a cultural defect unlike the other islands…

just look at the rubbish type of music they call Bouyou today…poor lyrics, just a chant, no layout, not musician craftsmanship…nothing to show..a typical hustle rum drinking loose gutterish ting…going absolutely no where…but if one tries to uplift the guys who bring that slack stuff as music they wanna take u down….

actually the rubbish bouyou music has poisoned the youth causing them to loose their values..look at a loose song call bend down…what does it portrait —-slackness,,,now if it was not giving airplay the guy would no it’s throw away lyrics and come better..

I keep saying the same thing man…after all this is the most popular band for YOUNG PEOPLE under the age of 18.. I’m like a little juicy loosy too unno.. dont get me wrong.. but the artists seem to have nothing more to offer but the vulgar….And if any of you want to take me to task as to the ability of our bouyon producers to write a song with meaning…there is a VERY SIMPLE way to prove me wrong…..Make just one song that has some real substance… this is my challenge

      are you able??
